Linda Rondstat thrown out of casino for supporting Michael Moore!

Something about pots, the color black, and kettles, comes to mind. Your psycho-Pit-stalking of a certain poster comes to mind when you mention ‘hostile’. And you are no stranger to calling people ‘retards’ and whatnot in the Pit; Don’t get all saintly on me now, fucker.

Your shameless defense of him put you feeding at his trough, dude. At least we have the courtesy to blush when Coulter says something goofy.

Excellent! Let’s see your 59 rebuttals.

Couldn’t agree more. To be involved in the arts is all fine and dandy but when you want to take it one step further and express how you feel about things that just goes too far.

Lord knows society doesn’t need to sit through any more supposed “artists’” bullshit political rambling.

I do not think those words mean what you think they mean. Have you ever heard the following quote? I think you could learn something from it. Assuming you do have the ability to learn from your mistakes, that is.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” - Theodore Roosevelt

Desparado just seems to be such an odd song to dedicate to someone you believe is doing great things. Is everybody sure that the audience’s reaction is what they think it was? I mean, how do you know that they weren’t pissed that she told Moore to come to his senses? Yeah, she plugged him before she sang, but couldn’t the audience have interpreted the song to mean that she had been sarcastic in her praise? Can’t it be that the audience booed her because it was left-wing and thought the song was an insulting faux “tribute”?

It is entirely possible, Lib. However, with the reaction turning to vandalism, I just get the impression that these audience members weren’t exactly the brightest bulbs in the box. I’m just not sure they’d have the cognitive capacity to interpret anything that isn’t actually explicitly stated to them in clear two-or-less syllable words.

YMMV of course, this is just my opinion based on the little we know of what happened.

I am not sure I agree with the OP, regardless of what the official statement is. We can take it on 2 fronts:

1 M.M. is an anti-American/Taliban supporter, which might be the reason why someone trying to recrute M.M. followers could cause themselves to get thrown out.

or equally acceptable

2 L.R. is causing a disturbance, and also causing political controversy that the owner of the establishment doesn’t want.
That #2 is the reason (again I don’t give a flying ---- what the official statement is, nor your cites) that SlimFast dropped Whoppi, They don’t want to be associated with political issues, don’t want the controversy, and want to sell to everyone.

[…incredulous stare…] The implication being that non-leftists in general are dumb? I don’t think so. Vandals historically have acted out of emotional rage, not intellectual stupidity. The blacks who trashed their own neighborhood businesses in 1960s riots, for example, weren’t stupid — or even conservative; they were just highly pissed off and sick of institutionalized oppression.

Way to misinterpret my post Lib. The implication was that those who resort to violence over someone expressing a political opinion that disagrees with theirs and in no way actually hurts them are somewhat intellectually lacking. An please, how can you seriously compare the 1960’s black riots to some idiots trashing a place because an entertainer there likes someone they don’t?

This has nothing to do with left or right. If a bunch of leftists trashed a place because Lind Ronstadt extolled the values of Anne Coulter, I’d call them a bunch of idiots too.

<sigh>

Cite?

You’re probably better off to tell you the truth. There are a good few armchair warriors in that thread.

Errrrmmm guys this shouldn’t happen. It shouldn’t happen if LR gave GWB or Moore or anybody a shout out.

Your country is horribly divided. Hopefully one way or another somebody can calm this shit down. I don’t hold up much hope though in the short to medium term no matter who wins.

When’s a modern day equivalent of W.B.Yeats gonna get up on stage and tell the crowd that they should be ashamed of themselves ;)*
*If you get the ref. I know it was a different ballgame but still …

Opps. Ignore the first line that’s from a different thread on a different message board :o

Speaking of misinterpreting posts, my original point was, how do you know they weren’t leftists who trashed the place — angered by the backhanded compliment of singing “why don’t you come to your senses” to Michael Moore. If people can trash it because she complimented Moore, they can trash it because she insulted Moore, can’t they? Your response was that because they were vandals they did not have enough intelligence to catch such a backhanded slur. My response was that emotion, and not intellegence, is pertinent in such cases, and cited the race riots as examples of emotionally charged vandalism. So, the question still stands — how do you know they were not leftists angered about Moore being called a Desperado?

You’re right about that. I haven’t seen it this bad in a long, long time.

I don’t, I conceded it was possible but said I didn’t believe that that’s what it was because of the way they reacted. I also said that that was just a gut instinct from the little I knew about what happened and that I could easily be wrong.

i.e. I felt that anyone intelligent enough to catch a possible backhanded slur would have been more inclined to heckle or make complaints, rather than resort to violence and vandalism.

Crap, I’m really not having a day of stunning clarity, am I?

Well, I think that that should be settled so that partisans can decide whether or not to be outraged.

And again, I feel that that sort of vandalism is indicative of an emotional state, not intelligence. Intelligent people can commit everything from vandalism to mass murder.

This is exquisitely ironic, considering the preceding gems like

and

Matthew 7:3 comes to mind.

Rats, Starving Artist! I was almost finished with my long, masterly (mistressly?) refutation of your posts when my computer ate it. Sheesh. So I’ll just say, I agree with Zoe and Daisy Mae. Also point out the pattern I see is:

Celebrity A peppers his performance with political statement his audience agrees with; gets cheered. Protestors are denounced as un-American stiflers of free speech.

Celebrity B peppers his performance with political statement his audience disagrees with; gets booed. Protestors are lauded as refusing to let some damn entertainer tell them what to think.

This happens on both the left and the right; it’s wrong when either side disrespects the right of the other to free expression. Including entertainers; they have as much right as any other citizen to speak their minds.

Also it was like vandalism in that both can be described using words in the English language.

Don’t forget that important comparison.

A little more info:

So this was not some planned thing by Ronstadt to get booted.
