So I’m actually going to praise something Graham said.
The other day Graham said that the money spent in Ukraine was well spent as it is kiling Russian soldiers. The Russian government responded by issuing an arrest warrant for Graham. But I have to say I admire Graham’s response to the warrant:
“Here’s an offer to my Russian ‘friends’ who want to arrest and try me for calling out the Putin regime as being war criminals: I will submit to jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court if you do,”
I had the same thought, as it happens. I have never understood how and why Graham so completely capitulated to Trump. I’m not one prone to conspiracy theories, but it does make me wonder if Trump has something on him.
People love saying that and it obviously makes no sense. It doesn’t work like that. There is no way that Trump has a secret known only to Trump that can be used for blackmail. How would he even come by such a thing without dozens of others knowing?
The answer is very simple. Graham does what he does to maintain his power for the short term and continuously changes as needed. The only “blackmail” is Trump saying, “kiss my ass or I’ll tell people not to vote for you.”
I don’t see any reasonable way it could be true. How could Trump not be one of scores of people to know whatever it is and also have actual believable proof?
It’s a great response to Russia. As for Lyndsey Graham’s apparent departure from sanity, I’m as puzzled as anyone. Some years ago, his colleague Al Franken had mostly good things to say about him: realistic outlook, funny, able to compromise when necessary. That all vanished when Trump took office.
Right. Which is what’s so weird. Because there’s a lot of space between “Trump is the president, and of my party, so I’ll work with him” and frothing Trumpy nutterism.
An awful lot of people seem to lose their mind shortly after starting to hang around Trump. Although maybe the decision to hang around Trump was their first unhinged act.
We also know that nuttiness in general is what happens when the normal restorative forces that keep you in the normal lane are reduced or eliminated. After that the wackiness just seems to increase exponentially.
Whatever specifically went wrong with Graham, it started as a small seed and is now anything but small.
