*Posted as my original incarnation before I changed my email address and created a new account without knowing the rules. I’m older and wiser now. I notified a mod long ago to merge the accounts, but it hasn’t been a priority for them (or me).
The first thread it looks like I started was this one. Not only did I stump the Dope with an “Identify this SF short story” thread it only had 5 replies. Two other posters involved but only Little Nemo survives. 2-23-2004.
Unofficially I know I asked at least one stupid question back in the AOL days but I did not frequent that board.
The way I did it was to change the parameters to search for posts “and older/est” and then have it give the results in ascending order. Took me all the way back to the beginning.
Oh, and I requested it in thread format (rather than post), going through my username.

Started the thread on 9/6/2001. Got a few replies over the next few days, and then I guess people had other stuff to post about.
Everyone was mean to me and kicked me and said terrible things. It was tax season and my 'rithmetic was calibrated to fill out tax forms … so IT WASN’T MY FAULT.
I remember the very first post I made, back in 1999. The post itself, however, has vanished in the mists of time.
The very oldest thread I started that I can find features none other than Johnny LA in one of the replies.
My first circa 2000 question was pretty mundane and asked why some gas pumps have those little latches that allow unattended pumping removed. The answer for Massachusetts at least is that they were against the law but there has been a major development in this story.
They were legalized about a year ago even though many stations still haven’t put them back on yet. Free fact - those things are called “latch open devices” and their legality varies across the country but they are mostly legal because lawmakers realized that they rarely fail, improvised solutions are more dangerous and you shouldn’t have to look like a fool standing there on a zero degree day with your hand freezing to the handle when you could be inside buying junk food like a proper American. Reversal of this asinine law has been one of my most exciting life events this year.
