Link me to the first topic you made on here, if you can't find it. Anyone who replied still around?

Here is my first thread, “About a question at a job interview.
About a question at a job interview. - In My Humble Opinion - Straight Dope Message Board

Still active are:** filmore, Ibanez, Lord Mondegreen, Voyager, RaftPeople, raspberry hunter, MichaelEmouse, IvoryTowerDenizen, jharvey963, ThelmaLou, Jackmannii, kaylasdad99, Gary T, needscoffee, TriPolar, Patty O’Furniture, AHunter3, Jake Jones, Yllaria, simster, Isamu, Little Nemo, Nava, don’t ask, Sigmagirl, Jeep’s Phoenix, and Kaio. **

That puts me at 27 active members, but in all fairness, I only joined a little over four and a half years ago.

My First Thread: January 12, 2000
18 replies by 9 posters, 2 of which have been banned. 1 maybe 2 still active.

Found Money & the Law

I could use $750.00 right about now.

The first thread I started was How can SCOTUS allow the feds to regulate non-interstate marijuana? on 7 June 2005. I didn’t understand the Commerce Clause at all and remain grateful to everyone who participated in that thread. Looking at just the first page, nearly everyone is still active, including RTFirefly, Bryan Ekers, Bricker, John Mace, Evil Captor, Fear Itself, Steve MB, etc.

The Straight Dope Message Board was the only place I could find on the internet at that time where I felt like I was going to get a factual answer with an explanation and rational discussion. I was not disappointed and have been posting regularly ever since.

Joined to ask a question about an article, pretty much. Got one answer. They’re still around, based on their profile, but don’t talk much. Cosleeping suffocation - Cecil's Columns/Staff Reports - Straight Dope Message Board

I asked What is the “Funniest thing ever”? back in 2004.
The only name I recognize in that thread who appears to still be active is Lamar Mundane.

Using every method indicated here provides a consistent result: this one. I’d been a member for nearly a year by then, but apparently I’d been away for a while (given the opening line). No known survivors; one Doper whose last activity was back in 2015 is as close as I get.

Here is my first post about Low Flow Toilets from October of 1999.

Posters from the original posting that are still active today are:

Two years later, the thread was resurrected and these people posted to it that are still active today:
Diceman
Balthisar
Muffin
GaryM
wolfman

Mine was a GQ, about telephone keypads in non-English speaking countries.

Eight responses (seven if you don’t count the first one which was mine, correcting myself on the name of the Laotian language), from five different posters. None of them have been banned, but kunilou is the only respondent still active. Ringo was last active in May of this year, and hasn’t posted since 2014.

I note that C K Dexter Haven was the first respondent with an answer of any sort, and I confess to some surprise that he appears to have logged out in November of 2014, approximately one week after his last post.

The search engine says mine was in Comments on Cecil’s Columns where I made an addendum to a column on the last Dauphin. Sixteen years ago is a long time, but I think the engine is right.

**[del]jti[/del]**Northern Piper and Manduck are still active.

Joined October 2000, can’t seem to search before 2005. Only a handful of names from then still seem to be around.

Not sure what you did wrong, but I found this thread of yours from November 2000.

The first thread I find is about an anachronistic Tom Clancy-reference in an old column. The reference has apparently since been removed.

None of the handful of posters replying are still active.

I count 45. Am I now in the lead? Some of those 45 have posted above.

My very first thread was a political question in April 2012 soon after OBL was killed, Obama’s Ad on bin Laden, Romney: Fair or Foul?, which is funny because I tend to stay away from politics here (I lean slightly right).

Most there are still current and active: Kozmik, Ravenman, Marley23, Blaster Master, BobLibDem, BigT, Cheesesteak, Steve MB, BrainGlutton, furt, The Other Waldo Pepper, Chronos, Broomstick, elucidator, CJJ, emcee2k, zamboniracer, Ravenman, Enderw24, John Mace, BigAppleBucky, The Hamster King, Little Nemo, Mosier, Rhythmdvl, Oakminster, EddyTeddyFreddy, Jophiel, I Love Me, Vol. I, 2ManyTacos, Gyrate, Voyager, kaylasdad99, Jas09, Ca3799, Trinopus, Damuri Ajashi, Pleonast, Drum God, The Great Sun Jester, Crane, silenus, Larry Borgia, Frostillicus, Airbeck*.

Six other posters in that thread are not currently active. Although, **BrainGlutton ** was banned, so that’s no longer an active poster, but their banning was fairly recent.

Apparently, I was trying to pick a fight of sorts.

I’m not even going to try to figure out who’s still around or not. That thread is more than fifteen years old, some got banned, some got mad, and I’m sure 99% of them moved on with life (with one or two possibly in the Pen somewhere on account of my sig lines.)

"Putting the ‘mental’ into “governmental” for that whole stretch of time.

I had joined in 1999, my membership got eaten somehow in the year that followed so I rejoined in 2002 and just chimed in until starting my first thread in the Pit in 2004 (when I was Portia); it bothered me that men were lying in their online dating profiles. Most of the posters are at least not banned, but at least one has passed away (our Khadaji). We were a warmer, more familial bunch back then, weren’t we? So much so that peer pressure was employed w/ a straight face. **Spiff **, **Ludovic **and **Chefguy **look to be the most active remaining; **Otto **and **JayJay **get into a tiff where **JayJay **feels the need to clarify he’s not Ron Jeremy’s fatter brother.

Good times, good times.

My first thread was a complaint to Cecil about his column on Love Potions??? The only replies were from Electronic Chaos and Arnold Winkelried, both of whom were last active in 2013.

It must have been back around 2000 or so, and I think I started it to ask the question “Why do things look smaller when they’re farther away?” I think I got razzed a bit for asking such a stupid question, but neither could anyone explain it to my satisfaction. Either that or I was too stupid to grasp the replies, being very physics-challenged.
