How do you link to a particular post in a thread rather than the start of the thread?
Thanks
I just clicked on the little “#1” at the top right of your post and copied/pasted the url in the address bar into this reply.
No, I think he means more like this ,which links to post 22 of Some comments about clinical depression .
&showpost.php?p=3287248&postcount=22
With all due respect, what would be the difference? he could still view the entire thread by clicking the link above the single post as in my example…
never mind…there is no link :smack:
I’m an idiot. There is a link in the upper right corner.
I’ll go back to playing with my toys now.

Ooooh! Is that a Fiery Phoenix?
:smack:
Well, my method involves one less click, and less scrolling to get back to the relevant part, for the end user. However, I can’t really tell if this is what the OP is asking for. Hey, carnivorousplant! Did you mean to say: “How do you link to a particular post in a thread rather than the start of the thread?”, or “How do you link to a particular post in a thread rather than the start of the thread?”
I want to create a link in a post.
That link would take my Dear Reader to a post within a thread.
Juat as though s/he clicked on the #1.
Thanks in advance.
You’re welcome…
After all, I know how much you appreciate advice from experienced posters.
Yeah. Ask your mom if you can come over and play. I have Kool-aid.
Thanks for explaining it so clearly.
Touche’
Should anyone care to explain how to do it, thanks in advance.
Here’s an easier way to link to a post in context.
[****post=3286973]post in context[/post]
gives you this:
[post=3286973]post in context[/post]
How do you determine that number, though?
Just click on the post number in the upper right, and it opens the “View Single Post” view. Then in the URL, you’ll see the post number itself, like this:
That’s the single post number. Then use rowrbazzle’s trick with that number:
[****post=6451995]Here’s your post[/post]
Trying it out: [post=6451995]Here’s your post[/post]
(Thanks for that trick, rowrbazzle. I knew the long way of linking a post in context of the whole thread page, but I had not previously known about that shortcut, using just the “post” tag. Cool! )
That takes me to the thread.
Copying the address and pasting it into “inser hyperlink” takes me to a single post.
