How to show a post in the context of a running thread

Read something about this before. Could someone give a step-by-step guide to linking not to a single post in another thread, but to that post in its context?

First you have to find the post number. You can do this on any of the links in your post. Holding my mouse over the “reply” button displays the link it will be using, and the post number is in there after the “p=”. In this case it’s 6728897.

Take that number and put it in the URL that going to a specific post. If you need to see what that is, pick a thread at random and click on the “last post” link for it. You’ll get something like this:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=6729072#post6729072

Put in your post number in both spots and you’re GTG.

Another way to generate the link is this: [****post=#####]your description[/post]

You can also right-click on one of the post’s links, select “copy link location” or the equivalent, then paste that somewhere and extract the post number.

Cool, I never knew that one.

Thank you.
