who would win a fight (if for some reason a lion and a bear wanted to fight each other and not try to escape)

I have been having this argument w/ friends and I would appriciate outsiders opinions, please mention if your answer carries more weight, like a biologist, lion trainer, bear owner or someone who has seen a lion fight a bear, thank you

Seriously though, surely it would depend on the TYPE of bear. A Lion would kick a Black or Brown bear’s tail. But a Grizzly or a Polar bear? Definitely the bear has the upper claw.
Because I’m an ornery idiot, I didn’t see that “the largest type of bear” was in the OP.
But I’m STILL voting Lion.
And for that matter, I’m voting chimera too. But I think a Griffin could take them both.
while a donkey of intellectual superiority may be able to plan out his attack, the fact that he is still an ungulate would lead to his demise.
thus, i think the bear would win, claws or no claws.

He can sit back and watch his many powerful and graceful mates work together to tear the bear appart. And then they’ll let him eat first.
Which is, pretty much, the kind of lifestyle that I’m trying to acheve. Lucky lion.

The Bear of course!! I always say Bear!!
They are bigger, more aggressive and stronger. They also have thicker skin and more hair. I Bear can effectively use its paws to swat and claw. A lion can only use his to hang on to something after he jumps on it. A Bear would toss his ass into the ground though.

Don’t think you can call lions “noble” Ike. (Hey! His name is my name, too!) Lion’s don’t work, they let thier mates do all the hunting, but still eat first, feed thier young last, if anything’s left, and kill thier own children if they’re a threat to thier dominace.
As I said, a good deal if you can get it. Except for the whole starving and killing your children bit, which seems a little extreme.
Of course, that’s kinda how nobles act, isn’t it? Never mind.

I vote bear because, IIRC, lions kill things by grabbing them by the throat and suffocating them. Even if the lion managed to grab the bear’s throat, I don’t think the cat could hang on long enough to finish the job. Felines usually have enough sense not to take on something they think has a chance of beating them; I don’t think elephants worry too much about lion attacks.
A chimera would make mincemeat of Merv Griffin.

Well, as a lion is a 5 - 3, and a warbear is a 6 - 3, under normal conditions the bear would seem to have a slight advantage. In the desert, though, a good strategy by the lion legion could win over the equivalent number of bears.
I’d take a 9 - 2 cyclops over either, though, especially in my titan stack.
