In this weeks Smallville, Lionel Luther was able to see again. When did this happen, and how?

It was apparent in the episode where Lionel and Martha were being held hostage that he was able to see. I think he fessed up to pretending to be blind.
It happened in the episode with Lex’s long-lost (half?) brother resurfaced. A consumate conman the brother noticed that Lionel was faking his blindness (the episode hinted that Lex had may have noticed earlier himself), and had been for some time.
So, how did he get better? He just did. Better than kryptonite mutation, I guess.
Then he faked his continuing blindness for sympathy and to better observe those around him.
You might not have noticed it before because Lionel hasn’t been in an episode since he came clean.
