Smallville 3/3 spoilers please!

I got home a bit late, and missed the first 15 minutes or so of Smallville last night. I came in right about the time when Lex and Clark are in the lab with all the dead bodies. Can someone fill me in on what happened before? I got the idea that there was some sort of phone call from the future???
Also, I wish they’d be a bit more consistant on his speed. In this one for instance, he got to the end location literally in less than a second, but it took him long enough to get to the guy with the van that Adam had time to finish changing the flat, unjack the van, and drive off??

The main thing is, Clark was at the teen crisis center, and got a phone call from Lana. The scenes were the same as at the end, with Adam chasing her and shooting at her. Probably started around when the shot went into the wood. The final fram had her get shot in the back, and she was lying face down in the rain, with a spot of blood spreading in the center of her back.

Clark sprinted off to the Talon, where Lana and Chloe were just sitting there, studying.

Later, they realized the basketball team on the radio (the Vipers) were playing the next night, and rain was predicted, so they suspected it was going to happen in the future. Lana was wearing the white and blue sweater when she got shot, so it was creepy when Clark’s dad gave it to her, and other steps made it look closer to coming true.

There was a bit where Lionel tried to convince Lex to take over the research facility, but Lex said he wasn’t dumb enough to step forward now that the shit was about to hit the fan. And there was a bit where Lionel was threatening the N. Korean doctor with deportation.

That catch you up?

The end of this episode tied things together nicely while managing to leave a good cliffhanger. Surprised the hell out of me, too.

I kind of wonder whether:

Lionel’s disease was brought on by exposure to kryptonite. IIRC, Lex Luthor ultimately develops cancer as a result of kryptonite that he keeps around to protect himself from Superman.

jeevmon, unless the mythology definitively states otherwise, Gough and Millar have very effectively foreshadowed that

Lex will eventually kill his father, or at least Lionel will die as a direct result of Lex’s ambition.

Of course, if this week’s cliffhanger isn’t just a bluff, Lex would be in a very sticky situation. He would lose his bargaining chip, and effectively take ownership of exactly what he wishes most to wash from his hands.

Another excellent way to handle this would be for

Clark, finally in the guise of a Super Man, to accidentally kill Lionel with Lex as a witness.

I don’t know if Gough and Millar have set any limits on how far into the mythology they can go, or what the desired end-point of the series is, but that would go a long way towards establishing Lex and Superman as arch-nemeses, while not destroying the Lex-as-believable-protagonist character.

Thanks all…I just couldn’t figure out how the “phone call from the future” had been shown.

The guy with the van was somewhere near Metropolis, Clark was in Smallville, and he had to find the exact location. Lana and Adam were in Smallville and Clark was at the crisis hotline.
