This seems simple, but I’m lost.
Is there a simple way to determine (or has it been posted anywhere recently) a list of the Top, oh, I dunno, 20 or 30 or 50 or 100 posters, ranked by postcount?
I think that would be under “Members List”, but it’s disabled. At least for me.
Yeah, the “Members List” has been disabled from the day I got here, for several arguements, most of which include ‘security reasons’.
I don’t want some porn vendor getting my member name and info, only to spam me.

Another reason is to prevent competition for the highest spots. That’s why a lot of boards disable counts altogether.
I came here from a board that declined rapidly after lists of members with the highest postcounts were instituted. Custom titles based upon postcount were another feature that, IMHO, harmed the board. People were making hundreds of crappy posts a day, hoping to increase their prestige. It was dreadful. I would hate to see that happen to the SDMB.
We’re not going there, there’s more than enough to fight about already, we don’t need to add more.
We also do not need to flog the hamsters to increase post counts for those that feel they must catch up with others.

What are you trying to do, develop a list of the most argumentative posters, or the ones with the most time on their hands?

I was just idly ruminating on that general thing where 20% of X generates 80% of Y. (You know, 20% of your customers/cleints generate 80% of your revenue, kinda thing). I was wondering how close the SDMB fits this model.
IOW, 20% of the current, active members generate how much of a percentage current posts? Or, alternatively, what percentage of the current, active members generate 80% of the current posts?
That kind of thing.

Exactly the reason that I like the post count. One out of two ain’t too bad. 
Somebody did this manually some years ago. I forget exactly what my rank was, but IIRC I made the top 200 which was very surprising.

Although I do have to admit: I’m a little biased by the “Join Date”. I know I shouldn’t be, but for some reason I tend to associate a little more credibility to those that have “been around the block” for a bit. It’s kind of like, you respect the guys in the shop that have been there for a few years, yet nobody wants to listen to the new kid. :rolleyes:

Idle, might I ask whether your name came from the habit, or the habit from the name?
I’d say probably the former. I have a habit of over analyzing things and thinking deep thoughts on, well, almost everything. It’s been that way my whole life.
