As per the article on whether sneezing can give a brain aneurysm linked again in a recent thread, I’ve been thinking about this and other potentially harmful conditions that can arise from completely innocuous behavior. Specifically, problems that arise strictly from the way we control our bodies (or fail to), and not involving equipment or environmental hazards. For example (and I’m a bit fuzzy on the details, hence the thread!) I’ve heard that coughing in certain rare but possible positions can increase the chance of a slipped disc or hernia, or attempting to keep the eyes open during a sneeze or yawn possibly being harmful…
Some of these are probably myths, but is there a handy checklist anywhere of real albeit rare conditions to watch out for?
