Lust - I’ve always been boy crazy.
Wrath - I have a bit of a temper.
Sloth - I can spend way too much time kind of sitting around.
Pride - I do care about being successful and good at things.
Gluttony - I’m pretty neutral here.
Greed - I don’t mind sharing what I have with others.
Envy - I’m actually pretty happy with my lot in life so this one doesn’t come up much.
This could have been written by me.
When I was younger, lust would have probably been first though.
Religious rules and myths are typically created by the elite of the time to serve as propaganda in their favor, and they didn’t want the peasants getting uppity.
Mel Brooks can go hang, I’m the one who gave you the straight line.
Hm…
Probably something like:
Sloth, Gluttony, Lust, Wrath, Pride, Envy, Greed. But those last three are just about non-existent, and the first is really only because I’d like to be more motivated than I am now (though I have lots of hobbies and a fair work ethic, I could obviously do better). Ditto about eating better, though I eat healthy foods. Lust, well, I love my partner so I don’t know that it even counts.
Pride - my biggest sin, but also the one I keep the most to myself
Gluttony - I have very little self control when it comes to food
Lust - I love sex, although over my lifetime I’ve hardly been what you would call promiscuous
Sloth - I am a terrible procrastinator and have the attention span of a goldfish
Wrath - I don’t easily anger, but every so often something random will fill me with RAGE
Greed/Envy - I like nice things, but I have no problem with sharing, and I’m not really into coveting my neighbors, wives or otherwise
Pride, gluttony, greed, envy, wrath, lust, sloth.
Pride, sloth, envy, wrath, lust, greed, and gluttony.
Sloth
Gluttony
Those are my two big ones. I don’t really fall too bad for any of the others, but in order they would be:
Wrath
Lust
Pride
Greed
Envy
Sloth
Lust
Gluttony
(Huge gap)
Pride
Envy
Greed
Wrath
Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, Wrath, Pride, Greed.
I love it … it’s like an ancient form of Myers-Briggs … are you an LGrGlPWSE or an ELWGrSPGl?!
For me …
Gluttony (take me away from the food) - this is my biggest sin and goes way above the others
Pride (put me back in my box)
Wrath (keep my temper in check)
Lust (eyes straight ahead please)
Sloth (I could do more)
Greed (more likely to give away than want more)
Envy (you all be what you like, I don’t care)
I’m eating a huge plate of roast and mashed potatoes and I’m enjoying them way too much to think about this right now. When I’m done eating second helpings I’ll be tired, and probably won’t feel like typing or doing much of anything so I’ll put it off until later. Frankly, the only thing that would get me to do much of anything at this point is a chance to get laid - which I probably won’t have since all these other undeserving guys always wind up with the women I know that I deserve, being better than them in every way. It makes me so mad I want to open up a can of ass-kicking on every last one of them. But why should I take the time to share my deadly sins if there is nothing in it for me anyway?
Oh yeah, put Lust between Wrath and Pride.
From a secular perspective I find most of these things natural and healthy in small doses. Like the others though Pride becomes serious flaw at some point, the more highly you think of yourself by extension the less you tend to think of others and the less seriously you’ll take their thoughts and contributions. That’s the argument anyway.
That rather entertaining thought did occur to me, it’s why I was interested in what others said. Now maybe if someone came up with an equal but opposite seven virtues list people would be more eager to classify themselves.
If that’s your real order then I applaud your creativity.
Sleepy
Grumpy
Dopey
Bashful
Happy
Sneezy
Doc
Wimpy
Sloth
Pride
Lust
Gluttony
Envy
Wrath
Greed
Hmm… how do I fare with the seven capital vices…
In order of decreasing strength of the pull of temptation: Indolence, Lechery, Hubris, Gluttony, Wrath, Avarice, Envy.
I’m a horny slacker who’s a bit too full of myself, has something of a temper and sometimes overindulges; but not hung up on money, rank and possessions; and happy with someone else’s fairly gained success and prosperity.
No, wait… better move hubris to the front, since in order to protect my IRL image I do a pretty good work of concealing the short-tempered lazy perv on a day to day basis, if I may say so myself…
This is more difficult than I thought it would be to decide. Hmm. Would have to go with:
Pride-Wrath-Lust-Envy-Gluttony-Greed-Sloth (I HATE being lazy. I have to give myself a reason something is productive or I freak out and indulge in all of the 7 Sins.
Ex- reading a comic book- I have to convince myself this is for enjoyment-to relax- relaxing is good for the mind- good for the mind-good for the body. Live longer- be able to be more productive for a longer time- on an on. Lists and lists to crush the sense of failure I feel from not being more productive)
Sloth
Gluttony
Lust
Pride
Envy
Greed
Wrath
Sloth and Gluttony are the big 1-2 punch. Lust & Pride are almost interchangeable on the list. The other three trail by a fair bit.
