I’ve come to the opinion the the seven deadly sins are all damn fine qualities, at least in moderation, and any healthy adult should at times be a bit greedy, or slothful, or proud, or you get my drift. So here’s the poll. Which is your favorite? Here’s mine.
I guess that just shows I’m rather non-materialistic, but quite hedonistic, however I’m too damn lazy to really get myself into much trouble. But enough about me. Tell me about you.
I’m not sure I see how gluttony can ever be good, since if you do it in moderation, it’s not really gluttony anymore. Envy doesn’t seem like it’s ever good either, unless maybe as a motivator. Hmm… most of those seem to be pretty bad. Sloth? Isn’t that, by definition, excessive laziness? Lust can be good I suppose. Okay, I’ll go with lust.
Gluttony tops my list. I live to eat. There are certain foods, like pizza, I am like a dog with. I can eat pizza til I barf, then go back for more. Yeah. Gluttony is number one, followed by sloth. I’m pretty sure gluttony brings out the sloth.
Numbers 5 and 7 are waaaaaay down the list, really. I almsot never have any pride, and rarely get “wrath” level upset. But boy oh man am I lazy, and I do love a good romp in the hay!
I lean toward lust as my favorite. Two through seven are:
Sloth
Gluttony
Pride
Greed
Envy
Wrath
Ok, if you came to my house and drank my last beer, that might up the wrath a few notches. After all, drinking my last beer would be a most egregious offense, right?
Lust is the only one I really like though. It leads to trouble, but the payoff seems a lot better than for the other ones.
Wrath is not too bad. I like to get angry. I get angry a little bit every day. I’m not sure why I like it. I would like to stop but I’m never sure what else to do. I’m working on it. When I don’t get angry, I feel helpless and passive, but when I get angry, it’s only an illusion that I’m controlling any outcomes. A lot of times, I feel like I’m really making someone pay and later I find out they didn’t even notice.
Gluttony is my least favourite. It causes problems from the get go and the payoff isn’t much. Greed, Pride and Envy suck a lot since I don’t even know what the payoff is, but they aren’t that big of a problem for me since lust and anger occupy so much of my emotional energy. Sloth is like an instant punishment for me. I get depressed or anxious if I sit around or procrastinate so I don’t even enjoy it.
I’d have to say Sloth and Lust are running neck and neck, several lengths ahead of Envy, while Gluttony, Wrath, Pride, and Greed never even got out of the gate.
