The Ms. and I took a chance and watched the new Jason Alexander show on CBS. The segment before the commercial break produced nothing, but the rest of the show had some genuinely funny moments. The work scenes with Malcolm Jamal Warner and that guy from Ally McBeal are some of the funnier bits. Alexander is combining his Costanza persona with a new personality and the result is not bad at all.
Unfortunately, CBS has placed it opposite that god-awful ‘Fear Factor’, so barring a time-slot change it probably won’t last out the season. It’s worth a look, and we’ll be tuning in for a few more eps.
Most of the jokes were sooooo “sit-commy”, which I just can’t take anymore. It had a couple funny lines, e.g. “well, after I take a shower there are still parts of my body I don’t want to put on the table.”
Besides, fat bald guy with hot wife and kids. Seen it 8 million times. But wait, this is a little different because he’s a sports writer. . .oh wait, that’s not different AT ALL.
Typical laugh track, piped in at those times when what was uttered wasn’t even a joke.
Maybe in the “sitcom world” this is watchable, but I just can’t take the formula.
The son seemed a little funny, but the daughter and the wife were THIN characters.
There was no chemistry with Malcolm Jamal. . .especially if you’ve ever seen the “PTI” show that’s supposed to be based on in which Kornheiser and Wilbon have terrific “you can’t make this stuff up” chemistry.
I think this is a bad bad show that will be quickly forgotten.
