Listserv recs?

I am a member of a group of about 35 parents who want to communicate about some school-related issues. We are thinking that a listserv would be a good way to accomplish this. Can anyone recommend a good listserv? (One of the parents mentioned Topica. Does anyone have experience, pro or con, with that specific one?)

Any alternative recommendations (e.g., using a weblog) are welcome.

What about a discussion board, like this one?

You can set up a free one at EZBoard. I personally think they’re easier to use, but to each their own.

You can also use Yahoo! Groups to do the original mailing list thing, but everyone involved would need a free Yahoo! account.

Oops, just to be clear: I think web boards in general are reasier to use than mailing lists, not ezboard in particular. If you have money to spare, you can sign up for a web host that’ll let you run your own without the advertisements and such.

I like the EZBoard idea. Thanks, Reply!

Ezboard is good, but unless you hand over some money it can be pop-up hell for your users.

Thanks for the warning, TheLoadedDog. I decided to hand over some money anyway, to be able to limit the board to approved members. Knowing that I’m also avoiding pop-ups by paying $$ makes me feel a little better about allocating funds to this project!

My real problem, I think, will be that some members of the group might not be familiar with message boards and might not take to the idea. But even if it doesn’t fly, I had fun setting up the board! And I’m only out $9.95 for a three-month introductory trial.
