"Lite" Soda

Why is there never “Lite” or “Low-Cal” Soda? it’s either all or nothing as far as calories go. has this been tried and failed before? i’d be interested in trying a Coke with 1/2 the sugar instead of no sugar. Any answers? Thanks!

I think there is (was?) a Pepsi product in Canada called, “Pepsi Max” that had like 1/3 the sugar of regular Pepsi. And there was Pepsi Lite which had a lemony flavor, but I am not sure on the sugar content.

My first thought was Pepsi ONE… It’s not, really, but i’ll post my research in case anybody cares.

I couldn’t find any mention of Pepsi Max…

Here’s a link to a page with a taste test between Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max:

Amongst diabetics, Canadian Pepsi Max is notorious in the United Kingdom.

As far as I can tell, in Canada they are a lot stricter on the use of artificial sweetners. Thus, the Canadian version of Pepsi Max has sugar in it. No other version does.

Now, it is quite common in the UK to import soft drinks, usually as some form of VAT dodge. Last year that a large amount of Canadian Pepsi Max was imported to the UK, which meant that a lot of diabetics ended up drinking cola with sugar in it when they thought there was none.

You can read more about it here:

darn i’d prefer sugar in my brown cola drink if i drank brown cola drinks , theres rumours that along with bacon (double darn) that the artificial sweeteners cause cancers
rumours of course (bacon is proven somewhere)

“Bacon causes cancer”…

Any substance is toxic in large amounts. Nitrites are genrally regarded as safe for people who sensibly limit their bacon to a few times a week. Some of the previous artificial sweeteners are carcinogenic in large doses but their does not seem to be evidence this is true of splenda/NutraSweet, etc.
