My 13 year old brought home her art project for me, she was going to save it for Mothers Day, but was too excited. It was a decollage vase, it was orange and red, and had pictures of weiner dogs on it. Sounds weird, but it is really, really cool.
This past Saturday I went to a surprise 30th Wedding Anniversary party. The couple were so surprised. When they got up to dance to their wedding song “Just You and I” I almost cried. I honestly could not watch much, because I HATE crying in public. I wish someday to share a love that lasts that long.
Ooooooh, this. My Dearly Beloved™ and I were in Central Mass a few weeks ago, driving down a country road at dusk. The Peepers were peeping !! We heard them and pulled over near a pond that was off in the tall weeds a bit. Just sat. And listened. And enjoyed. Yeah, that is a lovely sound.
Public libraries. To me they’ve always smacked of Aladdin’s cave: all those dizzying riches for the gathering and enjoyment. It boggles my mind that even in my small town, there are literally THOUSANDS OF THINGS that I could check out and read / view / listen to. I can happily carry them away to my anthill, keep them for a while, then exchange them for OTHER WONDERFUL THINGS later. And the price is right, just a tiny fraction compared to how much I enjoy. And if I can’t find anything to suit me right that minute, I can order up nearly anything I like from another library and get it without additional cost.
Truly one of my happiest places on earth and good to lift my mood almost anytime.
We have a tiny sliver of woods behind our house, in which we have lived for 15 years. We’ve been seeing a lot more wildlife in the backyard as development has eaten up habitat.
The other morning, I was heading to my car and heard a wood thrush. I know thrushes prefer deep woods, so I’m sorry if our little woods were the best he could come up with. But I’d never heard a thrush in those woods before, and it is such a beautiful, ethereal sound. It made me so happy I almost cried.
I had dinner with my mom tonight, which isn’t terribly rare except that I left my phone in my purse and didn’t check the time once. We had a few drinks, lingered over our food, and laughed so hard that everyone stared at us. I love making my mom laugh, she has a wonderful, squinched up face, shoulders shaking laugh and she balls her fist up in front of her mouth when she really gets giggling. Easily the best day all week and much needed relief.
A few months ago I met a guy with the last name “Ford”. Feeling whimsical, I asked if he was related to that coward Robert Ford. He gave me an extreme :dubious: and I dropped it.
Today I happened to see him again, and he thanked me. He had never heard of Robert Ford. He researched the name, then watched the movie. He even looked into the genealogy of his family (no relationship detected).
I got to turn my calendar page yesterday, a tiny thrill, and the May kitty picture is extremely smile-inducing.
I drove my son to the bus stop this morning and asked him to put the satellite radio on a certain station. When he did, it was playing a song that we both love and we both cried “OOO!” at the same time.
Snuggling with my husband this morning after the alarm clock went off I heard him sniffing my neck. Giggling, I asked him if he was sniffing me. “Yep, you smell good.” It was sweet.
In my cubicle at work, I have a picture of my SO blowing bubbles with my then 3 yr old godson. The grass and trees are bright green, the sun is shining, the bubbles are floating and they are both grinning from ear to ear. I love that picture.
The wisteria in the pear tree. It’s so pretty and it just… happened.
And another thing: goldfinches the other day taking my cotton lavender for their nest. It was just so sweet, the way they were handing it to each other. And they are so pretty and colourful. And it makes me happy to know that my cotton lavender will help keep the parasites out of their nest. How amazing that little birds know that. Take my cotton lavender little birds! I have plenty!
