I use 2:1. A little more water for brown rice.
Nava, my ex-husband was constantly losing his wallet and keys.
I tried several ways to help him: putting a basket by the door so that he could put them in there as he took off his coat, moving them to the basket when I found them elsewhere, telling him I put them in the basket, reminding him to put them in the basket, etc.
Invariably he would run through the house cursing because he couldn’t find them. When I asked if he checked the basket, he would look at me with this blank look and ask, “what basket?”
Is it actually easier to cook or better tasting rice with this method? I always just toss rice in excess water and let it boil merrily until the rice is cooked. I check periodically to see if it’s done (ala pasta cooking method).
I’m terrible with notes and to-do lists. I have both. All over the place. Including Notes and To-Do (GTD) app on my iPhone. Does it work? Not a chance. I just can’t get into a routine about checking them regularly.
NB
It’s pretty easy, as long as you pay attention and don’t scorch it. I bring it to a full boil, turn it down to a very low simmer, put a lid on it and leave it alone. That’s the only way I’ve ever done it. When almost all the water is gone, turn off the heat and let the steam cook it the rest of the way.
Same problem, I just grin at people and say, “I don’t call me very often.”
Sometimes I go upstairs, then forget why I have gone upstairs.
I am 56.
That’s how I make rice. I made rice last night, and it was good.
I forgot how to tie a bow yesterday. I put on some jacket-type thing with fancy ribbons in the back, and I stood there trying to figure out how to tie the strings in a bow. I thought for a second maybe I was discombobulated because the bow was behind me, and if I tried it in front first to get my bearings straight, I’d be on board. No such luck. I was standing in my living room thinking, “How on earth do I tie a fucking bow?!” As I was deciding between making a sloppy knot and putting on something else, it came to me. Doesn’t really qualify as something I forget all the time, but I figured I’d share.
edit: I was responding to Sigmagirl.
Heh. Dave Barry once said (and I’m paraphrasing, 'cuz I don’t remember it verbatim): You know how sometimes you’ll go into a room and then forget what you went in there for? I think dogs live most of their lives that way.
I forget which is left and which is right. It was drummed into me in Catholic boarding school, so I make a mental sign of the cross and that gives me the answer.
To move the damned car on Wednesday or Thursday night as required, for street cleaning. We’ve had three street cleaning tickets in the past year, since we’ve moved to this place.
The best way by far is to use an Asian rice cooker. Mine shuts off the heat when the water’s gone. The only thing that can go wrong is not starting with the right amount of water.
I just took a 20 minute shower and forgot to wash my hair - d’oh!
It would seem that your screen name might be a good mental jog for that…
