This is so cool… a theatre group at Gordon College (not sure which one) recreated the first level of the original Super Mario Bros. Everything was just like I remember it… from drop-kicking the turtle shells to changing his overalls to white when he got the flower.
It has its share of glitches (mostly with sound cues being late) but all in all it’s very impressive!
You can see it here.
Damn that’s cool, even with the glitches.
I’m going to go file that under “Why didn’t I think of that?”
That was awesome! I can just see it now;
Super Mario Brothers: The Musical!
(Lets just hope Andrew Lloyd Webber doesn’t decided to do this.)
Clever, but felt like it lasted a long time - Mario has a time limit, you know!
I love it! Boy that really brings the memories back.
The next thing I’d like to see: a live-action recreation of the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault V2 rocket level.
That was easily the funniest thing I’ve seen in weeks.
It’s worth noting that the humor is completely dependent on us having already played the game and knowing what that first level is like. If we didn’t, it would just look weird, surreal and pointless but not funny. The humor comes from the intense contradiction between the 8-bit game environment and real life, and the unexpectedness of the former being acted out in the latter.
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen.
I laughed, I cried…then I got very bored. It was waaaay too long.
Plus, he kept getting two coins from the ?-blocks.
Overall, a worthwhile viewing.
I noticed this last week, and I forgot to post it.
Look out for the PAUSE!
But if the time limit on World 1-1 is 300 seconds, and the film lasted 4:57, then Mario finished just in time anyway.
