Live action Tick on Fox

Never read the comic, saw the cartoon very little, never a whole episode, I don’t think.
I liked this show a lot. I hope it stays.

Huh. That’s weird. I thought it was “Apocalipse Cow”. Damn screwed up brain.

I believe it was called “Apocalipse Cow”

Where Does He Come From?

Nobody knows. IIRC, he first showed up at a class reunion wearing a nametag reading …“The Tick.” He eventually decided the asylum was boring and left.

The Costume- In a very-special-issue of The Tick, Arthur realizes that he has never seen Tick without the costume. This makes him wonder “Is it even a costume or has he been walking around naked all this time?”

Where Do All The Heroes Come From?

It's a parody of mainstream comics. In the Marvel Comics New York city we have-Spiderman, Daredevil, Cloak and Dagger, The Fantastic Four, and a bunch more. In fact in a clasic issue The Tick battles .... another hero named The Tick. The big, blue lunatic must fight the other Tick for legal rights to the Tick name and paraphenalia. Big, blue wins and gets the other guys TickCave, TickMobile, and utility belts.

I started reading The Tick in high school. When I was told a cartoon was being made, I didn’t think it could come near the comic. I was wrong. “…Arthur,…need…soup!”

I liked the live pilot very much. I too think that the Tick should not be cursing. He is essentially a 7 foot tall, nich-invincible, superhumanly strong, 6 year old. He has no interest in girls and does not curse.

I thought the make-out session between Batmanuel and CL was great. The idea that 2 of the city's greatest heroes are busy acting like 7th graders, and too busy making out to notice a deadly robot in the street below is perfectly in line with The Tick. In the cartoon, Arthur and American Maid were the only true superheroes. Tick and Sewer Urchin were stupid and or insane. Bullet Man, Carpeted Man and nearly everyone else had useless powers, no fighting skills and no grasp of strategy. Die Flaedermaus could be a hero if he wasn't such an incredible coward. In the new series, CL and Batmanuel have the powers and the skills to be heroes but are too busy behaving like young adolescents, having petty fights, or (at least for Batmanuel) using their powers to chase hotties instead of criminals.
I also noticed that Batmanuel was chasing Diego's sister. That actor's last role was in the sitcom Jesse. His character was ... Diego. Was this a deliberate joke or am I reading too much into this?

Bruno Campos was Diego on Jessie

Batmanuel (Nestor Something) was on Suddenly Susan

Under that mask, I mistook one actor for another, I am most ashamed. Please do not read this as bigotry of the “they all look alike to me” style. I have great trouble telling Meg Ryan and Melanie Griffith apart as well. If it matters, I am caucasian most of the time. At the moment, however, my face is very red.

Back To The OP-I am hoping that the slightly darker tone of the new series allows them to do a faithful Paul the Samurai story line. Besides the many great ninja gags, I want to see a live version of my favorite Tick line of all time. Paul the Samurai is low on funds and can not return home to Japan. Tick reaches into his pockets and gives Paul some cash. Pause for a beat. Tick "Pockets!? I have pockets!"

I fear that a truly faithful Paul the Samurai story may not be feasbile, given the events of the past few months.

Didn’t Paul smuggle his katana onto his flight to the United States by baking it into a loaf of French bread?

RichLather: No, he was unable to pass security and had to ride in the wheel well for the duration of the flight.

I object. Yes, the Human Bullet was lame, but he was kinda supposed to be. The Civic-Minded Five weren’t supposed to be competent. Die Fledermaus was a dandy and a poser. The Tick was absolutely a hero, just didn’t channel his talents very well. But Sewer Urchin? Not only is he the apotheosis of cool, but in his element he is unbeatable.

“Alligators? No. We have LOBSTERS.”

Yeah, Sewer Urchin was pretty cool, although he was pretty helpless outside the sewer tunnels. (“sewer” has GOT to be the hardest damn word to type…) He probably won’t be showing up - I’m pretty sure he was created for the animated series and is therefore “off limits”.

Ok, so I know I’m getting in on this pretty late, but I finally got to see the pilot yesterday and I LOVED it! But then, I am apt to love anything with Patrick Warburton.
The only thing I didn’t like was the “my bitch” line–definitely should not have Tick cursing.

My favorite line was when he stepped in gum on the roof, and while BM & CL are going at it, Tick is busy trying to escape the gum. And he says, “Sticky pink devil!”
hee!

Screw Survivor…I’m watching The Tick.
(Ok, I’ll probably watch Survivor too. But definitely The Tick!)

I thought it was cute. But notice that you didn’t actually see Tick speak the line. It could have been dubbed in later, or edited in such a way that it could be dropped out. Seems they were hedging, and decided to leave it in. I recall at least one other such instance in the pilot, though the line escapes me now.

I think it was Christopher Lloyd’s delivery of the “needed a machine to POOP!” line which was dubbed. I could be wrong.

Speaking of controversial lines, I thought there was one in the rooftop scene. Batmanuel is embellishing his relationship with Captain Liberty, and CL rebuffs him by saying, “I’m working on having it aborted.” Huh? Pregnant, feminist superheroes?

Oh. “Working on having him deported.”

Ears playing tricks like tiny round devils!
