Last week one of the moviegeeks I follow on Twitter did a “live tweet” broadcast of Cannibal Holocaust: he basically kept up a running commentary as he watched the film. This went out over Twitter in real time, and was immensely entertaining and elicited a LOT of followup discussion.
I’ve decided to give this a try.
In order not to dump “twitter vomit” on my regular followers, I’ve set up a second account. If anyone is interest in joining me for this experiment, this Sunday at 8pm Pacific time I will begin live-tweeting The Exorcist on my “lissener_live” twitter profile.
It may fail miserably; it may be the beginning a longterm timewaster; who’s to say. Sign up and follow my profile if you want to witness a potential disaster. Or, a cool new way to “review” a film.
Sounds cool. Someone else did a live tweet of Home Alone in real time over Christmas which was really awesome. (OK, so I love Home Alone–don’t give me that look.)
Though now that I read your OP, this one wasn’t so much a review and more an actual acting out of the movie with accounts for each character. Pointless, you may say…yes. But awesome. Very awesome. Anyway, can’t wait to see yours as well.
Yeah I’m not sure what it will be. I doubt the live tweeting will be much like a review; knowing me it will likely contain some snark. But it might be a really good way to begin a review: a collection of notes I could refine into a review if I wanted. I’m thinking I may try this with a few “classics” to see how it goes, and then maybe try it with a new movie, to get an actual review out of it. We’ll see how it develops.
Needless to say, ***Showgirls ***is on the shortlist of films I want to treat. I mean tweat. Tweet.
I meant to give about an hour’s warning, but I fergot. You get three minutes warning; all the devil left me. I’ll no doubt start a little late though. So anyone interested in witnessing the experiment join me at http://twitter.com/lissener_live.
Uh, twitter shut me down at 127 tweets. WTF? Followers are voluntary. Who are they protecting. “You are over the twitter update limit. Please wait a few hours and try again.”
I guess we’ll have to finish this tomorrow. If I do this again I guess I’ll set up a blog or something. That’s disappointing.
Thanks, everyone, for following along with me. Sorry it came to such an abrupt halt. But I kinda liked the outcome, such as it was. I’m going to try to come up with a blog setup that will allow me do it without the volume restrictions imposed by Twitter, and will post here with results . . . as soon as I have some.
Meanwhile, anyone who know ftw is up with WordPress, or who can point me to a good–free–film-related “theme,” please chime in. Thanks!
(I’m thinking of doing ***Imitation of Life ***for my next title.)
