What a capper for Edgar Renteria, World Series MVP, and deservedly so.
Someone said if you live long enough in sports you will see everything. I guess that’s true for me now. Only had to wait 45 years for this.
I have to give props to Fox for one cool thing they do (every year, IIRC) – they have a camera on every position player for the final out, and show a montage of each player’s reaction. that was awesome.
Now…Cal in the Rose Bowl. It’s gotta happen eventually.
I’d say so.
.412 average and single-handedly won 2 of the 4 games. Think he’ll retire now and end on the highest possible note?
Renteria had the winning hit in 2 world series 13 years apart. Can’t imagine that has been done before.
That was a nice touch. I’d never noticed it in past years…probably because my team hadn’t made it in a while…
I am a Detroit Lion fan. Are you telling me there is hope?
There is always hope, ask Red Sox fans. Or Saints fans.
Nobody ever thought we’d see the Stanley Cup champs here in North Carolina but we did. Only took us 9 years to win it after getting the team.
For six wins? Sure. Well, maybe. If that happens, we’ll call it your Super Bowl.
Sweet!
He also made the last out of another one. The guy gets around.
Cliff Lee the new Marion Hossa?
The Rangers ended the series with 29 hits.
The Giants ended the series with 29 runs.
Funny how fast Wikipedia is updated. They even updated all the stats on the page on droughts for winning a title.
I’m in my centrally-located apartment with the windows open, the city is ALIVE. There are fireworks, horns blaring, people screaming “Renteria!” “Giants!” and “Fear the Beard!”
There are also police sirens so there is some havoc, but who knows to what extent.
And the page of our local newspaper is now orange.
I should also note that the major landmarks in the city (Coit Tower, City Hall) have all been night-lit in a gorgeous orange glow for the past week or so. I should get out there with my camera…
Rangers fan of 31 years checking in to say congrats to the Giants fans. Your boys earned it.
But what a season for the Rangers and for Rangers fans. I’m having a hard time adjusting to the fact that the end of the Rangers season is also the end of the baseball season. It’s a very strange feeling.
The ALDS was the first post-season series you guys ever won, right? Just a great run for the Rangers, and must have been crazy in Texas.
Just want to add, great job by the Rangers, especially in those last couple games. A good series, classy play, and congrats to the Rangers for making it this far.
