I got a LJ code, set up my LJ, and am apparently mutual friends with the SDMB Community - so now how do I post a “hey, I’m here” post in the SDMB Community journal? I followed the link from my friend list to the journal, but don’t see any post buttons.
Use the “Update Journal” link on the left side of the page when you’re logged in, and in your “Post Options” there will be a drop-down allowing you to choose what joirnal to post in.
What’s your lj username?
I’ve got an LJ myself.
And for those who say they’d never post, it’s good to have one anyway just to be on people’s friends list, for those entries they mark as “friends only.” There are a couple friends I’d like to read some of my posts, but I don’t want to leave them open to the public.

I was super-creative; I went with “Ferret_Herder”.
Okay, in the interests of eradicating ignorance - in this case mine - is someone willing to educate me on “Livejournals”?
What’s a Livejournal?
What are they used for?
What’s a livejournal code for?
Why are they in short supply?
Not that I have a strong need to know, but this thread has piqued my curiosity.
LiveJournals are nice places for the Pit/MPSIMS-type stuff that you don’t think is really worth a thread. It’s also a good way to let friends keep track of what you’re up to without having to E-mail them over various things all the time - think of it as one of those “this is what we’ve been up to” newsletters that gets enclosed with Christmas cards, except that you don’t push them on anyone; the people who want to read it just check out your journal. I opened mine up to rant about an inlaw-related thing that I didn’t think was worth the time in explanation that a Pit thread would require. Some of my friends have them too, and I figured what the hell. I babble/ramble a lot otherwise, and this lets me put down the minutiae of my life without boring people to tears.
A LJ code lets you start your own journal. They’re in short supply because you need one to open a LJ unless you want to pay for one (paid ones have certain extra bonuses that free ones don’t). After you’ve had a LJ for a while, you can generate codes for other people to use.
You can also use a LJ as a “secret diary”, in that you could set some entries to be owner-read only. So if you were a teenager paranoid about his/her parents snooping, this would work for that.
Alright, NE Texan, I’ll give you some answers…
LiveJournal is an online website that allows you to create and update an online journal. These can be used for a number of things; it all depends on what you decide to put in it once you have it. (I use mine for talking about what happened in my day, showing quiz results [it’s really addictive], and talking about important issues.) There’s also communities in LiveJournal that are centered around certain topics or other things. They’re quite interesting sometimes.
As for the LiveJournal codes, you need them because of the fact that the person(s) running the site do not have enough money to run the site and give a journal to just anyone who feels like usurping bandwidth, so they have two methods of obtaining these said codes: you can pay for a set amount of time as a premium user of LiveJournal, or you can find a way to get someone to give you a free code for an account.
Any other questions? See if they have them on LiveJournal’s FAQ section.
Oh, and BTW, another shameless plug can be found right here.
Thanks, got it now.
Ah. I was never good at writing a journal, but I wanted to search through them… it’s a shame they don’t let guests do that.
If anyone is willing to lend me a code so I can use the search function, I’d really appreciate it if you Pm’d me.

Thanks Mermaid! I snagged the bottom one.
Thank you! I used the 3rd one.
Hope you don’t mind but I broke my long time lurking status to snag the first one. Thanks
Here’s two for anyone who wants them. You just have to promise to use good grammar and never use the word “quaint”.
