Just below this is “the political opinions of those who are concerned about the political opinions of soccer thugs.”
And below that: “the political opinions of those who are concerned about the political opinions of those who are concerned about the political opinions of soccer thugs.”
You’re a very clever young man, but it’s political opinions all the way down.
This isn’t even political if you ask me. USA plays England in opening games this coming Saturday in the World Cup. It’s not like Liverpool fans have been roaming around northern England torching Ol’ Glories for the last several years.
Actually it has pretty much nothing to do with the World Cup game coming up. It was about an American owner fucking up their team.
And since I posted the OP I have regained my perspective. What just annoys me is how in England when it comes to football there is a subset that lump all of America together and blame the whole country for every ill that befalls their sport. So I get annoyed because I really enjoy the Premkiership and International football and just hate being even indirectly linked to the Hicks of the world.
What subset is that? There are fans of a couple of clubs who blame American owners for effing up their teams. I’ve never heard anyone complain that America is ruining football. It’s laughable; Americans don’t care about football, and everyone knows that.
I guess I didn’t pay decent attention to the links, but I’d bet bucks to bangers and mash that the World Cup match up is feuling a few anti-America fires in jolly old England.
That’s only because we already invaded France, decided it wasn’t worth keeping, and gave it back. If it were up to me, we’d still have it just for their women with the sexy accents.
I’m not sure why you’re taking a piss on me here. Am I not stating anything that isn’t fucking obvious? World Cup confrontations always raise the ire among the ardent.
Well, yes, but if either World War had been decided on penalties we’d all be speaking German.
I’m hardly taking a piss on you, so put away the umbrella. I’m just taking issue with your contention that there are people in England right now bitching about Americans because of the match. There aren’t, and it’s silly to think there are.
It’s not like I have a roster of malcontents, but I hightly doubt that. For one thing, I know that Brits don’t offer very much respect to the Yanks when it comes to football, so it’s probably more of a chuckling at the upstarts rather than a screaming at the usurpers … or whatever. On the other hand, there are probably a half-a-dozen or so rednecks in Pigs Scrotum, Arkansas who couldn’t even spell soccer who will hate England for two hours this weekend because of a World Cup match up.
I’m not trying to get into an argument. And I know it’s my own fault for not paying the OP links very much heed, but I don’t think it’s outrageous to say that one country’s fans (well, some of them anyway) will always show contempt toward another country’s fans (well, some of them anyway) when it comes to this particular tournament.
