Liverpool FC

The Captain that I work with is retiring soon. He is a HUGE Liverpool FC fan from his time stationed in England. He bought tickets to see them play in Maryland in May(?). As part of his retirement gift we’d like to make a fan pack for him to take with him to the match…tshirt/jersey, etc. Problem is none of us knows anything about soccer or Liverpool FC. Do the have home and away jerseys? Do they have “foam fingers” like at US football games? Is there a certain anything he would appreciate?

Anyone know anything about Liverpool FC that can help me out?

Liverpool FC Official online store.

Google, you know.

I did Google and I did find that site but since I know nothing about soccer or Liverpool I was hoping someone who did could give me some insight into what a huge soccer fan would want/like.

But thanks for the condescending wink…

Jersey, yes, foam finger probably not. Although maybe, if it’s in Maryland. Probably won’t be in May, the season doesn’t end until the middle of may, then most of the players will be preparing for the Euros this summer. Scarves are perenially popular, though, even in summer, for waving about and suchlike.

Thanks for making your real question clear in post #3. Oh, and in answer to that, no-one here is going to know what sort of stuff your friend might like. What is available and a sense of what Liverpool fans in general like, can be ascertained by browsing that site. If it’s sold there, almost certainly it is something that a fair proportion of the fans will like.

I guess I won’t bother to try and be helpful to you again.

You should get him a big, fat Liverpool FC book.

Either The Team of All the Macs: The Early Days of Liverpool FC or Red Men: Liverpool Football Club.

If he doesn’t like reading, get one full of pictures instead - like A-Z Liverpool’s Greatest Pictures.

A scarf is an excellent idea too.

Just to emphasise: a scarf. The basic ‘fan attire’ soccerfans have is the (home) jersey and a scarf. The rest is extra. There probably also are some dvd’s with greatest moments etc. that might be suitable for a gift package (just like the mentioned books).

home or away jersey is de rigeur, scarves less so in general, but quite common for LFC. You could also go with a mug or something also

You have to be careful with Liverpool mugs. Recently they have a nasty habit of sliding rapidly down the table.

Ouch. True enough though

Definitely a scarf, maybe even this season’s top. Or a retro one… nice

Oh and hey OP, if you know when the man was stationed in England, you could perhaps go for something specific to that era in the club’s history. Like a replica jersey from them rare auld times, a biography about the club’s then-biggest star, or something like that. Would bring a tear to the man’s eye for sure.

Just get him a Lebron James jersey.

A jersey is definitely a good idea, but they’re not cheap. Toff’s is a good source for retro jerseys that are new, not previously owned.

Damn you! That site is going to cost me money! Really want the 1923 cup finlad Bolton shirt

I saw they’re celebrating Wembley mugs for the FA Cup semi against Everton. A club of LFC’s stature should not be thinking that’s a great achievement. As a United fan, I fully support them selling mugs to commemorate semi-finals and not titles.
To go along with the others, I think the scarf is very good idea.

 It really is a great site. I got a shirt from them a couple of years ago and just picked up three more recently. Top quality stuff.

Would also recommend one of those retro shirts. Anyone can pick up the current home or away kits - not to say they’re a bad gift - but very few people have a shirt going back decades, and Liverpool FC is a club which which was wildly successful in the 1970s and 1980s and the fans are still intensely proud of its history. The 1983-1984 season is a good suggestion since they won both the English league and the European Cup that year. The Kenny Dalglish shirt from the 1970s listed on that Toffs website would be good as well, since “King Kenny” is the current manager and a club legend.

The Sports Direct website has an almost endless array of Liverpool paraphernalia: The first few pages are jerseys and tracksuits but after that you get onto the pajamas, slippers, socks, keyrings, footballs, coasters, calculator, wallet… Etc. I don’t know if they deliver to the States but I’d be surprised if they don’t.
