Living Colour in San Francisco in 1989?

When I was in high school, I saw Living Colour in San Francisco in 1989. I’m pretty sure it was in a club in North Beach. Anyone remember the date or name of the club? Any chance anyone here was there? It was a great show.

By the way, I know they opened for the Rolling Stones later that year - I was there too, but that’s not the show I’m talking about.

Remember anything abut the club? Large & swanky? Small & dingy?

What clubs are up in North Beach that could handle a show like them?

  • Club Fugazi?
  • Jazz at Pearl’s
  • Bimbo’s 360?

Maybe something small like the Grant and Green or the Saloon, but those are really small…but they were just getting started so who knows?

Did a little Googling, looks like they were at a place called “The Stone” on Feb 18-19, 1989.

LOVE Living Colour. I didn’t get a chance to see them live until '94 or '95, at the Texas Union Ballroom here in Austin. Muzz Skillings left the band and was replaced by Doug Wimbish. He was awesome, too.

They reformed about eight years ago and are still going strong as far as I know!

Yep, The Stone would have been my guess. Saw a bunch of great punk shows there in the 80s.

Wow - thanks!

Shoot - duh. I hate missing stuff like that…

I saw Living Colour play on 2/19/89 at The Stone. It was a Black Rock Coalition gig. I believe that the opener was a band called Harvey. Read more about Harvey here. CRUD CRUD: Myrtle
My brain is a little crazy after all these years, but I want to say that ‘All’ played the first slot…but that’s not very black rock. Anyway, good set from LC!
