Living in Italy?

Hi,
I’m wanting to move to Padua, Italy for 6 months next year.

I have close family there (accomodation therefore not a problem, initially at least) and am an EC resident, so hopefully visas and/or work permits won’t be too problematic.

Have any Dopers made long visits to Italy before? Do they have any advice to pass on? Anything re finding a job (software engineer by trade, but anything considered) would be hugely useful.

I lived there for two years. Employment wasn’t an issue since I was there courtesy of the U.S. Navy.

I’d be happy to answer individual questions if you have them. The major advice would be to learn more Italian than I ever did, and buy a car there (parts availability and right-side driving.)
