Living while black in America

Dude manages to keep composure while cops try to set him up for a crime

Calmness in the face of adversity is admirable. Heroic even.

That made my stomach churn with anxiety. First the officer implied the driver had stolen the car (by asking how he drives the car and then asking for the keys). Then he says he smells pot and the passenger might have a gun. No gun or “shake on the floor” was found. I had to shut the video off when the officer, after putting cuffs on the driver, mentions how fast the driver’s heart was pounding. Hell, my heart was pounding and I live 250 miles away.

Indeed! I couldn’t watch to the end I was getting so angry at the asshole cop. And yes, my heart was pounding too and I live in another country. Damn!!!

Good thing the guy didn’t have an open container of alcohol in the car, or the racist cops would have busted his ass.

Oh wait…Police did find an open bottle of alcohol which they had the men dump out.

Shodan

Good thing he had a passenger.

Godspeed,

A woman (white) called police on a man (black) who was getting into his own car in Milwaukee.

White woman calls cops on black man rummaging through his own car.

White man urinates on a five-year-old black girl, calls her the n-word.

I started driving late nights for Uber a few weeks ago after going way over budget on our family vacation and racking up serious credit card bills. The other night I had a super short one, a half mile ride for a guy who looked like an athletic college kid. This seemed strange, until it occurred to me that he was a young black guy wearing a hoodie and walking would have been through a quiet and mostly white residential neighborhood. Suddenly it made a lot more sense. :frowning:

Folks, the counts have been tallied, and now it’s time to congratulate our top three posters in the “Living While Black in America” thread. Ooh, I’ve got chills. Envelope, please!

Congratulations go to… iiandyiiii, octopus and SlackerInc!

Thanks to all of you for having the courage to share your unique insight and experiences with us. And, to those of you who didn’t win - never give up. We hope to see you again next year!

…do you think that this sort of policing builds trust between the community and the police, or do you think it does the opposite? Is Laural Clinton right or wrong to not encourage her children to trust the police department in the future?

Do you think these sorts of accusations build trust between the community and the police, or do you think they do the opposite? Is Laural Clinton right that this is the only way they deal with her children 95% of the time?

Regards,
Shodan

…I suspect I’m not going to get an answer to my question.

My suspicion was correct.

What is wrong with the accusation?

Is it the job of the community to earn the trust of the police?

I think Laural Clinton is in a much better position to answer that question than me. I suggest you address it to her.

Now are you going to attempt to answer my question this time around?

My daughter was born in 1990, her brother three years later. I initially taught them, “the policeman is your friend”. Things changed. By the time my kids were in school, with the encouragement of a cop-friend, I was teaching them to not trust the police, to ask for their parents or lawyer.

Just an observation.

It took me a couple of readings to get your point.
Yeah, safer for that dude to take an Uber for a short ride than to walk through a mostly white residential neighborhood at night and take the chance that some asshole will call the cops on him.
:frowning: indeed.

its hard being black, no doubt. But in every society, its easiest to a member of the racial majority. There seems to be this ethos that bitching/moaning about muh white pwivlij, calling everything racist, guilting everyone, etc. is gonna change basic human nature.

Society and government has done all that is possible within the bounds of our constitution to rectify slavery/Jim Crow. Now its up to the African American community themselves to fix their culture.

how do you know my race? Can you refute that in all societies in the world, human nature has dictated that being a member of the majority is socially easier than not? And that’s why we’ll never have equality of outcome for the races.

You’re so white I have to wear shades to read your post.
