My hair has been down to my backside. However, as an adult when it goes past my waist and starts brushing the top of my backside when I’m naked, I go get 10 or 12 inches cut off to donate to Locks of Love. I do notice that I get fewer headaches of the exhaustion type when it’s not so long.
When I was a student it would get caught in the metal “buttons” on desks and student chairs in school. I’ve sat on it, caught it in zippers, clothing buttons, car doors, tangled it in a spiral note books  among other things. I test drove a cute red sunbird with a sunroof once when I was 18 or 19. Needless to say, I didn’t purchase the car.
It does get laid on, pulled and or quite tangled during hanky panky if it’s down. I almost always have it up in a loose scrunchie for sleeping.
I wear it up most the time and only down one a week or so. It has a lot of body, so I too wash and condition it and brush it out in the shower while the conditioner is still in and then rinse when it brushes through untangled. I rarely blow dry although if it’s quite cold (not often here in Houston) or I want it very straight I do use the blow dryer.
I don’t have any trouble putting it up in a bun or knot, it’s long enough that I just knot it on itself and rarely even use a pin. norinew’s word “hairgami” applies here. Great word. heh
I WISH I could get it straight… Its not super-super curly; Almost ringlets, but not quite. I’ve tried every way imaginable short of getting it done proffesionally(I don’t like the idea of putting all those chemicals in my hair) and nothing works.
I have a freind who’s a hair dresser, and she says that the longer it is, then the straighter it’l go. So, I want it to be maube
ass-length; THEN I’l try doing the whole straightthingy again.
My hair is to my mid back… I used to dry it straight all the time but it was never as smooth and sleek as the hairdresser made it. That really annoyed me cos I knew it could do it … I just couldn’t make it look that good.
So about 2 weeks ago I had to buy a new hairdryer - this one had a diffuser on it and I was bored that Sunday so I figured ok let try this and see how it works. My hair is naturally curly anyway but I always thought it was more wavy than curly - it happens I was wrong. Instead of 40 minutes making it straight every morning (and nearly ruining the condition from flat irons), now it takes 5 minutes and looks good even if I get caught in the rain (in fact it looks better !!!)… so I think I’ll stick with curly for now.
Weight is nothing - its quite fine but lots of it… I guess if I got it cut really short, I’d think wow I feel lighter - but I’m not doing that !!!
I’m a guy, with hair as long as it gets. Haven’t had a haircut since 92 (well, got talked into cutting off split ends once or twice, but very little length taken off). I do shave my neck occasionally however. I always, always, ALWAYS wear it in a ponytail. At least three elastics, sometimes 4 or 5. Spaced out to keep it together, ya know. Always wear a baseball cap too, put the ponytail out the hole in the back where the adjustment band is. Keeps my hair out of my eyes, and my hat on in the wind. Works great. Drove a convertable like that for years, only lost one hat. q;} I haven’t owned a brush in I don’t know how long. I run my fingers through it to detangle it, before and after I wash. The rest of the time, I just reposition the elastics. And it’s thick and wavy, so brushing takes forever anyway. The bare fingers take just a couple minutes.
I save TONS on haircuts. Almost enough to pay for my shampoo. q;}
hmm…
I used to do what a lot of people do in this thread: brushing my hair while in the shower, with loads of conditioner in it.
I don’t do that anymore, as brushing you’re hair when it’s wet can damage it even more. I use a concoction of sweet almond oil and lavender essential oil, about 24 hours before I’m going to wash my hair. I lather my hair with it, from scalp to tips, massage it in a little and gently brush it evenly into the hair.
When washing and rinsing, face down, then flip it over and put conditioner in. Detangle it with your fingers until smooth. Then flip over again to rinse, and kneed it dry, until the curls are set enough to let it dry naturally. Don’t brush or blow dry, as that will ruin the curls
The oil makes it soft and shiny and keeps the frizz at bay.
I have hair about half way down my back. Thick, frizzy hair. Many people absolutely love it, but it’s a pain to deal with. I can only comb my hair when it has conditioner in it (and it takes a lot of conditioner to get it through all of it) and it’s always getting in the way. In warm weather, it feels like I have a blanket around my shoulders if I leave it down. Also, if the wind is blowing, it will get stuck to my lipgloss (aaaarrrgggghhh…I hate that!). My boyfriend loves it and loves when it is down, but he keeps getting mouthfuls of hair when he tries to kiss me, or he keeps lying down on it. Also, he’s managed to find my hair in some interesting places on his body after it gets in my mouth while I’m doing certain things. I also manage to close my hair in car doors, and if it’s across my face, covering my mouth and nose, I feel like I can’t get sufficient oxygen. When I sit in front of people, they have to kinda lean sideways to see around the hair.
To make matters worse, a couple of puppies have had some interesting experiences with my hair. When my grandparents’/aunt’s dog was a puppy, he used to think that my hair was a toy, or another puppy, or something. And he’d pounce on it. This was not a good thing, especially when he decided he wanted to sleep in the same bed as me. Also, my dog has managed to swallow some of my hair (still not sure how that happens). That caused some difficulty coming out the other end.
I’ve had long hair most of my life. Right now it’s most of the way down my back, it’s dark brown and bone straight.
I don’t have a problem with knots. As long as I use a ton of conditioner, that is, and comb through it with my fingers in the shower, it’s fine.
While fooling around it’ll get tangled up…the whole “just been laid” look, and once or twice I’ve gotten come in it. It happens. When my boyfriend kisses me, it’ll get in the way (I’m talking about hair again here, not come–just so we’re clear), but that’s really not a big deal. Just move it out of the way and proceed. (After detangling it from each other’s molars, naturally. Just kidding).
The most interesting thing I’ve ever had happen as a result of having long hair was when I was maybe seven or so–a goat at a petting zoo started to eat one of my braids and we had to pry my hair out of it’s mouth.
There’s a product called ‘Flat Out’ you can get (I got it thru my hairdresser) that’s very good at smoothing out kinks in long curly hair, but it does have to be 95% dry before you start wrestling with the blow-dryer. Also John Frieda’s hair smoothing products work OK.
Worst things about long hair (and despite my name my hair isn’t currently the longest I’ve had it!):-
driving soft tops and finding you’ve forgotten your scrunchie
