So I missed ANOTHER NYC dope gathering. So I started thinking – do dopers ever go to the beach? Specifically, since I am the one starting this thread, Cherry Grove on Fire Island? How about it? Gay, straight, whatever – wanna party? The beach is clean (though un-lifeguarded) and clothing-optional, the bars are plentiful, albeit undeniably expensive. There are restaurants. And yes, the drag queens are, for the most part, leggy and lovely. (Children could come, but I would advise against it. Absolutely not a cheap day by any means, but a potentially amusing one. Cherry Grove is reachable by private boat (it’s up to you to get to land, though – no short term dockage is available), by water taxi, or, more commonly, by the Sayville Ferry. The Sayville Ferry dock is accessible by car, rail and shuttle bus. Drivers may wish to seek the somewhat scarce (and expensive) parking at the docks, or to do as I do and dump their cars at the Sayville train station and take the shuttle bus down to the dock. (No, the bus is not free. Nothing involving Cherry Grove is free except the sun, the sand and most of the gay boys in the Meat Rack. BYO condoms, if you are so inclined.)
So what do you think? I know there are a number of obstacles to this proposal, but I thought I would throw it out there and see if it would garner any interest. I am very shy when it comes to meeting people, it’s not like me to take the initiative like this, and my (lack of) physical condition generally keeps me off the beach proper, so posting this is an act of bravery on my part.
