Long-quit smokers: do you still long for cigarettes?

My brother smoked 3-4 packs a day. This is not a typo. He would get up every hour at night and smoke a cig or two. He finally had to quit or die because of heart issues at age 60, and was still reaching for his shirt pocket years later.

I started smoking when I was 19 and quit when I got married at the age of 32. That was 17 years ago.

My dad actually quit smoking the year I started, so I feel like between second-hand smoke and first-hand smoke, my lungs were smokey for 32 years.

I have no urge to go back, and in fact I look back on that guy that smoked and it doesn’t even seem like me anymore.

I started smoking when I joined the Navy in ‘81. When I met my wife in ‘87 she said she couldn’t live with it. I quit cold turkey and never looked back. Granted I never smoked more than 1/2 pack a day. Never had any withdrawals. Can’t stand the smell of it now.
