Longest You've Lived in One Place?

SanibelMan, I think that Anderson is still fine, but more people are going just outside the beltway to Clermont County or more often, up north (see any recent Rue DeDay thread). I hadn’t heard that they might tear down Beechmont Mall, but I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s an article in the Sunday Enquirer that they’re going to build two new malls up in Deerfield Township and Mason (north of I-275 off of I-75 and I-71, respectively). I think that Beechmont road is just two sucky to bear enough traffic to support a mall. But the neighborhood still seems fine. A lot more shopping out on Batavia Pike these days.

If you ever come back around here say hello. I didn’t know you were so young. The first time I moved to Cincinnati was also in 1988, but I was 26 years old then.

Except for the four years I spent in college I’ve lived my whole life in Chicago. From age 5-23 (again not counting tme spent in college) my family lived in the same house. I’ve lived in the house I now own for 16 years.

The neighborhood I grew up in (far NW Chicago) was pretty nice; there was a park/playground a block from my house and library and shopping all within walking distance. Chicago’s public transit system is pretty good, so I could always get just about anywhere in the city I wanted to with minimum fuss.

Where I live now (Lincoln Square) is a pretty nice residential area, again with shopping, library and transportation nearby. Lately there’s bit a bit of a boom here, which is both good and bad (my property taxes are up, but the value of my house has just about tripled since I bought it).

40 years, come August. In other words, all my life. Well, the original house was pulled down and replaced in 1971, but – it’s always been the same plot o’ land.

Nearly 18 years growing up - I’ll count that because so many people move around during their childhood.

6 years in my current location. It’ll probably be 7 years before I buy a house.

Garland, Texas (1976-1987)

holds my personal record, with about a third of my life spent in a small house at the corner of Milky Way Dr. and Northlake Dr.

I was in the same house with my parents from ages 6 through 24 (we had lived in three other places before). I’ve lived in two places since I moved out on my own and I’m coming up on 6 years as the longest I have been in one place since then. I don’t expect to move any time soon.

Longest in one house - my childhood home from age 2 to 19.

In the first 7 years of our marriage, my husband and I had 5 different addresses, all in the Jax, FL area. We spent the next 7 years at the last address, then 3 years in King George, VA, and back to Orange Park - coming up on 3 years here. We’ll sell this place next year, then build our retirement home, and that should be it for the remaining 30 or 40 years.

I’m still living in my hometown (I’ll be 35 in August). My wife and I are in our second home together, after a couple of apartments and one condo. I hope to never move again. I lived with my parents till I was 23 or so, and had several apartments before moving in with my wife. The house we have could use some updating (kitchen, bathrooms) and improvement (windows), but we got it at a great price in a very good neighborhood. Unless our financial situation requires it (better or worse), I will never move.

After my parents got married, they stayed at the same jobs until they retired (before that, they’d roamed quite a bit), so I spent the first 18 years of my life in the same house in Stoneham, MA (not too far away from Davebear), plus one more year after graduating from college.

After that, I was in Hamamatsu, Japan for about 2 1/2 years, after which I moved to Tokyo in late '97. My wife and I are currently looking to buy a house or condo in the area, so eventually that may take the lead, but not for a while.

That depends what you consider “one place.” The longest I’ve lived in one dwelling has been… 6 years in Belle Glade, FL. But I’ve lived in South Florida for a total of 10 years now, and I lived in metro Houston, TX (1 apartment and 2 houses) for 7.

Same apartment, Chicago suburbs, last 4 years.

I was also an Air Force brat so out of the 12 different towns, 11 different states, and 2 different countries I’ve lived in, that’s the longest.

15 years in the same suburban house growing up in San Diego (blech).

Am approaching 15 years in the East Bay (Berkeley/Oakland), though 5 years was the longest for a stint at any one individual residence.

Ages 7 to 19 when I went away to university.

My grandfather, however, has lived in the same house his entire life. When he got married, my grandmother moved in there with him. For him it’d be 85 years.

15 years in Eastlake, Ohio. My family moved out of downtown Cleveland when I was 2, and we moved to Kent when I was 17.

I’ve never been anywhere for more than 4-5 years since.
