How many places have YOU lived?

How many places have you lived, meaning that the places enumerated counted as your address? I hope this hasn’t been done of late; I don’t know as searching has proved difficult.

I don’t know what got me onto this, but I did start thinking about it tonight. I count 37 addresses of record. I had 20 addresses under my belt before I was 21, and I’ve lived where I do now for, come three months, 18 years.

Places I counted include those that I moved into fully expecting to live there for a while (painted my bedroom, changed my DL address, signed a lease, etc.), but had the situation fall apart rather quickly and places (4 or 5) where we spent an entire summer, 3 months, while my father did a summer teaching stint.

Places I didn’t count include those that we moved away from and then moved back to (for instance, we moved to Hawaii for a year, and we moved to Japan twice, but in all those cases moved back to the same house we’d left). I didn’t count hospital stays, even though my longest (3½ months) exceeded a summer stay elsewhere. My longest jail time was only a week, so I didn’t count that, although I suppose you could count it you were in long enough to establish that as your address. I didn’t count the commune I crashed at for a couple of weeks (I doubt any postal carrier could have found it).

Feel free to post what parameter tweaks you feel are appropriate.

Well, currently I stand at 12 or 13. I’m not sure if I should include a stay that lasted about 2 months when I justed moved to a new city and I was looking for a more permant place to stay, so I got to borrow an apartment from a friend and lived there temporarily. Mind you, no furniture or anything was ever moved into it, so I guess it shouldn’t be counted.

So 12 addresses, and counting!

18 places.

My present home occupies the same physical location as my first one (new house on the site), but the address is different. We were RFD back then, now we have a street name and number!

My 15th home was the same home as my first home, but it had been picked up and moved to a different location with a different address in between times.

Is that sort of weird?

I’d guess that college years account for many moves.

1983-1990: I lived at these 4 addresses every year for the first six years of my life, some of them we still visit whenever we travel back to the Philippines:

  1. Saudi Arabia - born there, parents worked there
  2. Manila, Philippines - mom’s side of the family lived in this area, we had a house here
  3. Provincial area of Philippines (2) - two houses, not really ours, but we lived there for a few months every year

1990-2004: Here in Canada, we’ve had 8 addresses:

  1. We lived in a room in the house of distant relatives
  2. Lived in the basement of a family that my parents knew somehow
  3. Moved into a den in the house of another family
  4. We shared an apartment with yet another family
  5. We lived in a one-bedroom apartment (finally a place of our own!)
  6. Grandpa came from the Philippines and moved in with us so we moved to a 3-bedroom apartment in the same building
  7. Moved to another 3-bedroom apartment at another building after I moved schools (middle school)
  8. We now live in a condominium

All those families we lived with were either distant relatives or family friends.

So that’s 12 addresses in total. I’m 20 if that matters.

19 places in 40 years. Four of those were in one year believe it or not.

One.

Fourty seven years old.

I tend to skew curves.

That is an interesting history Qadgop.

Wow! Booker! One?

27 addresses, at least. (Details are hazy about the first 2 years of my life.) 23 of those were before the age of 21. I’ve been in my current apartment for almost 22 years.
How many 2s can I use in one short paragraph?

19 places in 24 years.

I lived in three different apartments in the same complex. Different roommates each time, so it wasn’t just changing apartments because something was wrong with the specific unit.

That number is going to get much higher over the next few years because of the military.

11 places in 47 years, encompassing three states. 12 if you count that I’m now back where I started from.

Considering that 16 years were as a military family, and only 5 of those are moves were miltary (apartment in GA to apartment in CO to quarters in CO to apartment in GA to quarters in GA) at only two posts (Ft. Benning to Ft. Carson to Ft. Benning) I guess that’s not too bad.

Four of the moves were post-divorce…coming up on 9 years now.

Around 24, though I am probably forgetting a few.

That’s not counting at least 8 field camps where I’ve spent a month or more, or another field station where I probably spent almost a year in total but in 2-week stints.

Hmm.
Home
Congo (when I was 10)
College. (1 dorm, so 1 address. I don’t think changing rooms should count)
Summer
Grad dorm
apartment
Hell house in Lafayette, Louisiana
Apartment
nicer apartment
House
Apartment in Princeton
Half of a house
The other half (different addresses!)

Here

That’s 15.

Well, I’ve wracked my brain for about half an hour, and I come up with 33 addresses that I can remember, in 45 years. I think I’ve finally learned to stay put!

Currently at about 21 different addresses, in 9 different states and 12 different cities.

Longest spent at a given address: almost 5 years.
Shorest spent at a given address: 1 month (roughly)

I’m not counting three temporary living situations in a ‘extended stay’ hotel while moving, since that was just a glorified 2-3 week hotel stay.

I seem to end up moving about every 1.5-3 years, so I expect this number to contiune to keep going up.

<< I have not yet begun to procrastinate. >>

Oh, and that includes living in The Bronx, NY, Ithaca, NY, Boulder CO, Eugene OR, Wellington and Auckland, New Zealand, and Panama City, Panama.

I’ve spent more than a month at camps or field stations in Trinidad, New Zealand, Peru, Gabon, and Madagascar.

Four in 35 years.

I’ve lived at 7 addresses in 40 years. All but one were in Australia; the other was in NZ.

I’ve had 7 addresses in my life. Not as many as some people.

Was born in Saint John, New Brunswick; we lived for a year in North Hatley, Quebec, before moving to Winnipeg. We lived there for nine years, and then moved to Montreal. When I moved out, I lived in the Village for six months, then the Plateau for two months, and I’m coming up on four years of living in this apartment.

19 different addresses, 4 different countries.

I didn’t include anywhere I stayed for only a few weeks.
