Hey, the OP has not clearly defined the criteria(on) for judgment. Also, I wouldn’t consider either “beautiful,” merely mildly attractive. 30 years ago I was 14. I’m a male. Trust me, Jennifer was not the least interesting character on that show. Bailey Quarters maybe.
Hi Siam. My favorite music reviewer, Robert Christgau (succinctness personified), gives an easy to digest overview of her career. He makes a couple of interesting points about her singing: Her singular country treble is unsuited to rock, where little-girlishness works only as an occasional novelty.
and If Willie and Merle, her equals as country artists, can turn into premier pop singers, why can’t Dolly? Maybe because she’s justifiably smitten with her physical gifts. Just as she can’t resist pushup bras, she can’t resist oversinging.
I’m not the most knowledgeable Dolly fan, but generally agree with Wordman that she ranks (at least) with Cash, and maybe with Nelson. I’m very fond of “Marry Me”, off her comparatively recent Little Sparrow album. It’s a joyous song from the POV of a naive country girl. Dolly winks at the nativity, without stepping on the joy. And the bluegrass musicians are the best available.
And from the same album, a short, charming, bluegrass version of Cole Porter’s “I Get a Kick Outta You.”
Fun fact: Loni Anderson had breast reduction surgery when young. She was a 37D originally. Dolly Parton lost a lot of weight at one point and had surgery to restore her chest to it’s previous look. So neither is “as God intended” but for different reasons.
Given that Dolly isn’t into my type, that means Loni wins by default.
Sorry, shouldn’t have assumed everyone would get that reference. It was an MTV claymation show back in the day, and not at all celebrity friendly, hence the show’s title.
Burt Reynolds was in at least one movie with Ms. Anderson, and at least one movie with Ms. Parton. Stroker Ace and Best Little Whorehouse in Texas respectively. There may be other films I’m not thinking of at the moment. But based solely on the ladies’ appearances in Burt Reynolds vehicles, I gotta go with Dolly. It was the better of those two films.
If it was based on looks, then yeah, Bailey Quarters all the way. Between the two titular titans though, I just have always liked Dolly Parton’s personality, and while I’m not into her music, it’s easy to see she’s wonderfully talented. And way back when, she was a cute, wholesome looking young woman, though I imagine the same can be said of Loni Anderson. (I almost typed Loni Sanders, which would make it a different contest altogether.)
Just out of curiosity but how tall is Anderson? She looks leggier than Parton (who I think is around 5’1") so I assume she’s taller but I could be wrong.
