The point of this ridiculous, unwarranted and irrelevant hijack about something that is likely false and isn’t that graphic or creative anyway was?
This clip shows human beings torn apart by automatic gunfire. One would expect the primary reaction to be shock and horror, not a dispassionate discussion of the political context. If they were bad guys, the only proper reaction is regret that it had to be done; if they were good guys, the only proper reaction is disgust that it was done. You people who sit around calmly discussing the tactical details, and especially the technical details like what the caliber of the weapon was, someday your dead ass will be lying in a bed somewhere, and I hope for your sake it doesn’t show up in a video on the internet so that random assholes can talk about what your blood pressure was before you died.
Thanks for lettting us know how we should proprerly react.
:o yawn
I wouldn’t care, As I will have already found myself alone in a grassy field and found my way to aleesium(sp?)
Browney points for the first person to get that reference
Dry, technical fact for the day: Elysian Fields, basically the Greek equivalent of Valhalla.
And how did you know that most of our primary reactions were not “shock and horror”? It’s rather difficult to convey much by way of emotion in a text-based bulletin board, and at least as far as I’m concerned, I’d seen the clip weeks before it was posted here, and had already discussed it at length in other locations.
I was shocked, to a degree, yes. But I was no more horrified than when I saw the last bank robber in that California debacle finally go down. That, too, was a human being torn apart by gunfire, the only difference being that he was more overtly a “bad guy”. In this video clip- and yes, I know it’s an assumption- that barring valid data to the contrary, I will assume the pilot and gunner had a valid reason to fire. IE, they didn’t just “happen across” these men in the middle of the night and decided to pop 'em just because.
Which would accomplish what, exactly? It’s a war over there. We know its horrible. That’s how war is. The question posed by the OP was, “Was this action justified?” not, “Describe how grossed out you are by this video.”
I agree. However, many other people in this thread do not. Some seem to think that, even if they were insurgents, gunning down an apparently wounded enemy soldier from the safety of an armored helicopter constitutes some sort of war crime. Hence, we have a debate.
If there is some question about the morality of my passing, I would prefer that people question and debate the circumstances of my death, so that any guilty parties involved can be apprehended, and any innocents absolved. I further hope that, in such circumstances, those who choose to question my death are free from hypersensitve, condescending idiots who think that people who don’t beat their breasts and gnash their teeth at the passing of a total stranger are somehow morally defective.
