Look Ma, it's another Bay Area thread

Ok, so somebody at the dopefest, and now I can’t remember who, was saying that they’d never seen Spinal Tap. This, IMHO is a sin against nature. I haven’t actually seen it in a few years either. This fine Oakland establishment ( http://www.picturepubpizza.com ) is still showing the epic in all it’s perfection on a reasonably big screen, and they have beer and pizza and couches. I beg of you in the name of all that is holy to get there and laugh while you still can. All shows are $5, except Wednesdays which are 2 for 1. I’ll probably be going at some point this weekend, but if anybody wants to make a gathering out of it, let me know and I can post a specific time. For the desperate city-folk BART transport can be arranged.

I’m always up for any kind of Dope-Fest. Alas I shall be out of state from Dec 20 thru Dec 27 (don’t you just hate it when someone types “thru” instead of “through”, I know I do).
Other than that, count me in.

I guess I shoulda been more specific, it’s now or never. It’ll run for a week, starting tomorrow and the shows are at 9 or 9:15 depending on the night. What night is good for you? I was thinking maybe going to go Friday or Saturday, but could wait until Wednesday if people want to go cheap.

I’d have to consult with my social director (Mrs. Batty) before I can commit to anything. Generally we’re up for movies on the weekend, so this may work. I just can’t remember if we’ve already made plans. But I’ll let you know. Meanwhile, we need to get some other SF-Dopers on board too.

Saturday or Sunday are best for me. Is this place near BART?

Sassy, BART is halfway between my place and the theater, so I can pick a couple of people up. If we get more public transit types, we will need a second car.

This is a shameless bump (hello Snoooooopy, Zenster, anyone, anyone?), and it sounds like Saturday night is mostly good. It starts at 9:00 but it takes a while to get food ordered so if we meet up at my place around 8 or meet there at 8:30 we should be good.

How can I resist someone who mentions me by name? Saturday is a good day for me.

I’d like to go - my girlfriend has never seen the film. I’ll have to check with her to see if she’s available, but I’ll let you know. Slacker, I didn’t check the link, but I assume from your description that it’s at the Parkway. You guys are gonna love that place. But we should probably get there a little earlier if we wanna sit on the couches.

I’ll try and haul my carcass there. Sonya, maybe you can research the show times and all that stuff?

Sorry, but it looks like I’m out. We already have plans to spend an evening with my cousins-in-law. We usually try to get together at least every other week, and due to differing conflicts we haven’t hung out in more than a month, so this is our only chance to see them before the holiday vacations start.
Have some popcorn for me.

Cool, this should be fun. Of course it would be more fun with the Battys, but I guess they’re just too cool for us. The show starts at 9:00. Woodstock is right, if we want couches we should get there early. My proposal is that we meet at my place between 7:30-8:00 and head over. If you guys email me today, I can get you directions and work out BART pick up for Sassy.

Look! I liked you guys so much, I decided to come back! Too bad I won’t be there in time to see Spinal Tap with y’all. I must admit: I’ve never seen it either.

Does that make me not cool?

I was the one who hadn’t seen it, and unfortunately, I cannot go to the screening, as I work on Saturdays and Sundays. If anyone wants to go on Wednesday or Thursday, I’d be down with that!

Well, it sounds like Kyla and Rasa will just have to rent it at some point. I think you do get extra cool points for wanting to go. I also think I have now hit my limit for use of the word ‘cool’ for the week. Happy packing, Rasa!

Did you know that “thru” was invented by a Chicago newspaper publisher in an attempt at spelling reform. Never caught on with the other papers, but he hung in there for years.
[/hijack]

slackergirl, you could be soooo East Coast if you stuck the word “wicked” in front of cool.

Rasa, we will know that you have successfully made the transition to the Bay Area when you stick “hella” (or is it “helluh”? I never got that one) in front of cool.

This is different from the native Angeleno’s “way cool” or the ever popular “coolness,” which I also use too often.

Yep yep, oldscratch has got me saying hella as a modifier. As in “that party was hella off the hook”.

Heehee… luckily my RI accent only comes out when I’m tired. I said “haaba” instead of “harbor” and almost was run out of the city on a rail!

Even after three years in California, “hella” still sounds a little alien to my speech.
