A beloved piece of my childhood is gone:
The Friendly Giant is dead.
Can there be any Canadians over the age of 25 who don’t recall with great fondness the 15-minute show on CBC television, with the deep-voiced, but soft-spoken giant in his castle, who always had three chairs ready for his little friends to visit? And the piano-playing cats? Or Rusty and Jerome playing the harp and recorder respectively?
It was a gentler, calmer time–no cartoons, no toy commercials, no action figures.
Robert Homme was 81.
