I’ve seen a shawl like this (picture 1, picture 2) on some of the British mysteries I watch on Acorn and BritBox, and I’ve been trying to find one like it. The characteristic that appeals to me is the generous size and that it’s loosely woven (thus, stretchy and clingy). I’m guessing it’s crocheted, although I suppose it might be woven like this. From the pictures, it seems the wearer folds it in a triangle, crosses it in front, wraps it around, and ties it in the back.
I’ve looked at websites of Irish woolens and other places on the internet using “loosely woven shawl” as my search term. I’m not a crochet-er and only the most elementary knitter. I could probably manage to knit one from very simple instructions in time for next winter.
Anyone know where to shop for one of these?
Google cross wrap shawl and cross wrap shawl pattern - I found lots of photos and potential patterns.
Looks like a version that shawl is worn by a character on the show Outlander and there’s several people on Etsy who are selling versions of it. Expensive tho.
Good suggestions, y’all. Thanks.
That first one is clearly made from an extra bulky yarn: if you want to try to make one yourself, that should knit up fairly quickly.
Bottom line: you want a basic triangular shawl - there should be tons of patterns out there. I made several myself, a few decades ago; one was simpler and the other was trickier, but neither required especially advanced skills.
Here’s pattern that looks similar, but it’s crochet.

Ravelry has tons of patterns and lots of options for searching, so you might be able to find something there. You can search for only knitting patterns.
I am soooo not crafty.
I envy y’all who are. I knitted a seven-foot plain scarf recently. Took me months…
