A resident of a small town, there’s no way I’m going to find what I’m looking for around here.
I want a shawl. I’m going to the opera, and damn it, I want a black shawl to go with my gown.
A friend of mine from Brazil once had a gorgeous shawl that was black, and hand-emboridered in an antique-gold color . . . absolutely gorgeous! My broad hints (leading to eventual begging and offering increasing amounts of money) would not convince her to part with it. I’m looking for one like it.
HSN.com and QVC didn’t have anything like what I wanted, and I’m hoping that someone (perhaps our belly-dancing Dopers) might know where one can be found on the 'Net. Internet shopping is always a bit scary for me if I’m not familiar with the merchant, so if you have any recommendations along these lines, please let me know if you’ve ever purchased from them, and if they’re trustworthy.
Saks had a couple on their website, and this place had a few. I am not familiar with the second place, but the prices are quite reasonable. If there is a mall near you (and it sounds like there isn’t), you could try a place like Claire’s, which handles accessories. Walmart occasionally handles shawls as well.
Try Nordstrom or Marshall Field’s. I’ve seen nice ones in both stores. Or just google “shawls” and see what comes up. You’ll probably see names you’re familiar with.
I’m not sure what exactly you’re looking for (or how much you’re willing to spend), but google now has froogle that allows you to search shopping sites.
I’ve found it useful if I’m looking for general pricing information before I head out to physically shop for something.
A couple of the ones I found: http://store.yahoo.com/hamsashawls/jetblacevsha.html
Saks was a bit out of my price range for the ones I liked.
I’ve found quite a few through searches, but, again, if I don’t know the merchant, I’m hestitant to buy. It’s not necessarily out of fear my credit card information will be stolen, but beccause I’m afraid that the product won’t be as represented, and I’ll not have time to find another.
Thanks for the advice anyway, guys.
If anyone reading this thread has bought through the merchants above, please let me know.
