Looking for a new watch...can anyone tell me if one like this exists?

I’m not sure if this belongs in General Questions or here, but I’m going to try here since I don’t know if the answers qualify as being factual.

I’m looking for a new watch. I like watches that look stylish and classy, but I also like the digital ones, and while a digital watch might make the stylish cut, they rarely make the classy cut. I have an idea of what I want, and even though I’ve never seen it, the market for these things is so big I can’t imagine they don’t sell what I’m looking for somewhere.

What I have in mind is a digital watch with an animated hand watch. The face is gothic with old timey looking numbers, or roman numerals with faint crack looking designs in the background. With the touch of a button, it converts to a normal LCD digital watch. With another touch of a button, you can use it as stopwatch. A backlight would be nice too. Even better if it’s yellow to really up the ambiance.

So, any dopers here familiar with such a watch?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a watch that looks like that, but I have seen several models of watches that are both digital and analog… Usually the digital display is in a window in the watch face, roughly where the 8-4 numbers would usually be. All of these watches have a stopwatch feature and alarm as well, and I think some have a light for the digital display. The watch my husband has has glow-in-the-dark hands and numbers for the analog. It had a very nice metallic blue face and a dark brown leather band, so it looked more dressy than typical digital watches.

Here’s a random one I googled: Amazon.com

I don’t have the time to do a search now, but I think about a year ago someone asked a similar question and someone else posted a really great link to some beautifully designed digital watches - some with a face that looked almost analog, but created digitally.

Try doing a search here on the boards on “digital” or “watches” to see what you come up with. It was a great link!

I have a Timex I rather like that is a combo watch. It’s not dressy, as it’s in their Expedition line, but the hands are phosphorescent as are the hashes for the numbers. 5-7 are taken up by the digital display and 12 is the Timex Expedition “E”. The entire watch lights up with the Indiglo feature, not just the digital bit. It also has a stopwatch, a timer, an alarm, a date, and a second digital time zone.

I need to get a new one as this one is starting to chip and I don’t think all the solvents I’ve gotten on it are really helping.

There is also the Casio Wave Ceptor and Fossil used to sell a combo digital analog watch.

I’m sure I’ve seen something like the watch you [OP] describe. It was a while ago - I would have bought it but hadn’t the spondoolicks - I dunno if it had a back-light but you could have either the watch hands or numbers for def. I can have a look around town to see if there are any still available
