Looking for a particular piece of furniture

Many moons ago on Antiques Roadshow, I saw a piece of furniture that I thought was neat. It appears to be a huge upright trunk, but when opened reveals what appears to be a miniature office. It had many drawers both vertical and horizontal and, IIRC, a slide out or fold down desk top.

Any ideas?

I don’t remember exactly when I saw this.

Hm, I know that they made great traveling wardrobes in steamer trunks, that you can get duplicated in modern materials by Anvil Cases…and they have configurations for high end audio recording, computer transport and use, things like that…but I see no reason that a business man couldnt have had a custom ‘office’ instead of a wardrobe. Anvil cases

I found this out because I have always wanted a pair of the wardrobes, one fitted for hanging clothes, the other for drawers and shoe files=) and then one fitted to hold my computer gear, and one for all my AV stuff, and one for my art collection…nothing like being able to move everything in self contained cases with wheels=)

The travellers theme seems promising…I’d also suggest another WAG, which is a railway connection. I’ve no idea what was located in the ‘private’ sections of the good old trains, but it wouldn’t surprise me if a postmaster or similar had something how you describe. Of course, it all depends on the dimensions…have you a tape meaure, Mr Blue Sky?

IIRC, the one I saw on the show was about 4 feet tall and maybe 2.5 feet across (folded) and 4 feet deep (folded).

I don’t need something like this, mind you. I’m just fascinated by such things.

I’ve seen such a thing at levenger.com , though not recently. I’m not sure if they still carry it.

Thanks for the link.

I found this and it’s pretty close. The thing I saw was easily twice the size and fully enclosed.

Was it anything like this?
IIRC, Mechanix Illustrated sold plans for something similar, but without the rectangular top part, in the back of their magazine many years ago. I always wanted to build one but never got ambitious enough. The one I reemember actually had a brass mail slot in one of the doors. It must have been very cool for me to rember it after all these years.
Anybody have a stash of old MIs they want to sort through?

Oops. The above post was actually by Bumbazine. Den Mum is my wife. Sorry about that.

Except for the size, it sounds like a Louis Vuitton travel desk (larger photo), which closes up to be a regular-looking trunk. Being who they are, I wouldn’t be surprised if they custom-made some larger pieces, too.
