thats about it, I just want a ball park figure for a single web page nothing fancy and hosting for that page month to month, I would expect it to be fairly low traffic, maybe 2000 hits a month (I think thats a high estimate)
I just need a number I can work with so if you have a good one for me I would appreciate it.
If you want a simple site with very low-cost hosting, Dreamhost is offering a deal for $5.95 a month that will far exceed your stated requirements. They also have really good support.
I use 1and1. Their hosting is pretty good, but some aspects of their server configuration are a bit non-standard (won’t affect you if you just want a site made up of a few static HTML pages).
Their customer service/support is pretty prompt, but not always effective - I recently had an issue (with the above-mentioned server configuration weirdness) for which it was pretty obvious the support respondent knew less about Apache than I do, and I know nothing - the answers to my questions were more or less copy and paste versions of the FAQ (and didn’t answer the questions at all).
If you really want just a single page - just one page, then you could do it for almost nothing: host the page at freewebs.com, then register a domain name with a company that offers masked web forwarding and set it up to forward to the freewebs site.
Not a good long term solution, if you want multiple, bookmarkable pages within your site - and sometimes, penny-pinching solutions like this come back to bite you on the arse later.
How sure are you that you only want the one page? How do you see this developing, if at all, in the future?
second short term we only need a single page, in a year or 3 that may change dramatically.
I would think that as long as we own the domain name we could move to a more capable server in the future once we actually need to.
