Is there a site that archives scorecards for individual games? A friend wants me to teach her how to keep score, and (since she’s a Dodger fan and I’m a Giants fan) I have a certain game in mind. I guess a play-by-play description like MLB’s GameDay (or hell, a TV or radio broadcast) would suffice, too, as long as it included balls and strikes, so I could generate a scorecard myself.
Specifically, I’m looking for a LA @ SF game last year, I want to say June or July, where the game was tied in the ninth or tenth, Gagne was pitching, and Bonds homered to end it. It was huge because Gagne was into his so-called perfect streak, and I think that game may have boosted to Giants to be even or ahead of LA in the NL West. I can probably scrounge up the date when I get home.
Bonds never homered off of Gagne last year. I’m not sure if he ever has. Gagne gave up two homers last year, one to Guerrero and one to Todd Helton. There was a game at San Fran on June 23, and Gagne took the loss in that one in the 11th, but there was no Bonds homer. Here is the box score from that game.
If that doesn’t do it, here is the game log for Gagne last season. He only took three losses, so the game you’re looking for, if it involves Gagne losing, shouldn’t be too hard to locate. You can click on the score on the left-hand side to see the box score, and you can go back to 2002 to see if maybe it was two years ago. All the box scores can be found that way, anyway. Hope that helps.
Upon further review, the winning score off Gagne in that June 23rd game was Bonds being singled home by Galaragga, so Bonds was involved in the walkoff, even if it wasn’t a homer. I think that might be the game you remember.
Ah yes, I remember that game too. It was a critical juncture in the Giants’ 1st place wire-to-wire run through the regular season in their division. The line score in the ESPN account is in error though (missing the Giants’ 2nd run)…
Going into the game on June 23rd, the Dodgers and the Giants were tied for first place.
The Giants blew a 2-0 lead in the top of the ninth, but came back to win that game in 11 innings, putting them a game ahead. They held first place to themselves for the remainder of the season.
All was wonderful at PacBell…then Jose “Gold Glove: Regular Season Only” Cruz, Jr. dropped a can of corn and then they didn’t have anybody on the bench to pinch-run for J.T. “Molasses in January” Snow…
If you can’t find the scorecard you’re looking for, you can find some Red Sox scorecards at www.theremyreport.com. Jerry Remy sells his scorecards for games he’s called–some are pretty cool, like a no-hitter or the Sox/Marlins game from last season where the Sox batted through the order in the top of the first before the first out (at least, my dim recollection is that that’s what happened)…
However, what I’m looking for is a scorecard, which details every pitch thrown in the game (except, usually, fouls on two strikes). The ESPN Game Logs are almost complete enough, but don’t include balls and strikes.
I did find one small archive, but the giants game of note in the playoff of 1998.
