This monkey was bought at Babies-R-Us a little over a year and a half ago. It came with a matching baby blanket. I’m looking for a replacement but can’t seem to find one anywhere. I’m hoping maybe one of the moms around here has an unwanted one they’d sell, or knows where I can buy one. It’s my son’s “special” doll and it’s starting to kind of wear out, and my wife and I are both terrified we’re going to lose it at some point. We’d really love a back up / replacement.
Pics are here and here:
I can get more pics if that leaves any ambiguity.
Please note, though, I am not at all interested in a similar monkey. Only one that is exactly like this.
Check eBay. There is a pretty healthy market in resale of plush toys on eBay for this specific reason. I did a quick search on “toys r us monkey” and “babies r us monkey” and didn’t turn up any that look identical to yours. However, look at the tag on the back of the toy and maybe you can find more specific descriptive information there that will help you search. Also, keep running the search every week or so, and one might come up.
I tried looking at the Toys R Us site, they have a monkey listed with blanket, but no photo. It’s called a NoJo plush Monkey, though Google searches show something that looks similar but isn’t. Then again it is a search.
I’m pretty sure that we had one as I remembered when I saw your photo. However, my wife and I split and she took most of the stuff. I’ll look when I get home tonight, but make no promises.
It seems to have the same brown star under its foot. Unfortunately this link isn’t to buy it, but at least you have a name now (if that’s the right one).
Wow. I like to think I have some Google fu, but this…this is epic Google fu. My hat is off to you, sir. (If that’s not the same monkey, it is amazingly close.)
Best of luck, but be aware that Replacement Monkey will not actually replace the beloved monkey, should he ever meet an untimely demise or get left behind at Cracker Barrel on the way home from Florida.
Holy @#$% what search terms did you use? My google-fu is spoken of in whispers among my friends and family and I’ve been searching fruitlessly for months.
If you do actually buy the thing, start rotating it for regular use as soon as you can, rather than waiting for the old one to wear out or get lost. If you lose the old one, and introduce a suspiciously clean new one, it might get rejected.
Actually, if the youngster is young enough, you can usually arrange a substitution without the child noticing.
I speak from experience here. We were fortunate enough to realize that our kids had chosen their special stuffed thing, while said stuffed thing was still available - and procured duplicates of each.
Never got busted at it, except for once when somehow Dweezil got hold of a spare, and the original turned up, and for about 12 hours he was thrilled to have not one, but TWO bunnies. Spare bunny got “misplaced” a few hours later and he never questioned it. Another time, a spare was at hand, and he walked into the room with the other, and the spare got slam-dunked into the nearest empty hiding place: a soup pot (fortunately empty).
Now that the kids are much older (and still rather fond of the stuffies), we can’t swap 'em out any more even though we still have spares. Oh well.
Crossing fingers for you, cisco, that you’re able to locate a spare!
