I am embarking on an impossible mission but I must. I know my search will be daunting and perhaps fruitless but still, I must do it. I ask you, the good and faithful readers of the SDMB boards, to help me on my quest. I am seeking…
seeking a thing so unseekable, so hidden and unsearchable that I NEED help… your help, folks.
I am looking for a TV movie from the 90’s called, “White Dwarf”. At least, I’m pretty sure that was the title. There was a kingdom of light and a kingdom of dark, a princess kept in a cell that was watched over by a creature (ugly and big but soft of voice and kind-hearted), a little kid who had mind powers and doctors who could do “psychic surgery” with their hands (in a town in the light kingdom). The king in the dark kingdom was killed by someone putting this weird worm thing into the bottom of his foot. And a huge ocean of red (blood?) that wailed in torment. I wish I could give you a better description but that’s all I remember. It was possibly a Stephen King production?
Help me out, people. Where can I find a copy of this? I need this movie.
They had some magic surgical gloves they used for fishectomies. The gloves would snap onto the surgeon’s hands by themselves. It wasn’t hard to tell that they were just showing footage of the guy taking them off in reverse.
IIRC (I could click on the links or google, but that would be cheating.)
“Two great ladies held apart
The lady light, the lady dark
They are the ones who’ll catch your fall
For they are the ones who catch us all,
And we shall bring you home.”
“Governor Twist, I believe I was in error in my earlier assessment. Your health problems are not corset related but stem from a delicate, no, an exquisite constitution.”
“Don’t worry. After the first few hundred years, the centuries just fly by!”
“I’m not used to being in the light. I feel like I’m naked.”
“It’s okay. I’m a doctor.”
“No! He’s too young! He’s got so much life to live! Never! Come back, Never!”
White Dwarf was obviously the pilot of a series. IIRC It aired twice. The second time was a year later, which I took as a sign they had picked up the series. No series ever aired and I don’t know why they showed the pilot a second time.
Tried eBay, Half.com, and all that. So far, nada… sigh
I liked it. I also liked “Merlin” and the little bit of that fairy tale thing I caught (Snow White?). Call me a goof but I enjoy these kinds of shows. I’ll keep looking though, it is my quest!
Merlin? With Sam (Neil? Nunn?) (that guy from Jurrassic Park and The Madness Of King George)? Nimue? Queen Mab? Martin Short as a fairy whose name escapes me at the moment?
I don’t know if it’s still available but for a while you could order it from CBS or whichever network made it. It was IIRC under $20. One of my friends ordered it and they threw in the Leprechaun miniseries (Dennis Quaid, Whoopi Goldberg, Colm Meany?<Miles OBrien of NextGen and DS9) for free.
Fairy tale thing? John Laroquette as dad? A prince who had been turned into a dog? A wolf in human form (IIRC Balki from Perfect Strangers)? Lots of looking for magic mirrors?
That would be the surprisingly good The Tenth Kingdom.
20 bucks is fine, I’ve just seen the one “Dwarf” for 76 bucks as mentioned by GIGO. I looked on eBay and nothing came up, Half.com didn’t have anything. Can one order things from CBS? That would be very cool.
Sam Neil, yes.
John (Night Court) as dad, yes.
I looked for my copy of “Merlin” and it’s gone. I think my ex kept it in spite when I left him (like my porn commercial… lost, says he. LIAR.). So I’ll have to buy it again. “The Tenth Kingdom” was cool, even seeing a mere few moments of it. I want that, too.

You guys are the best!! I’m very grateful for the help and if you have suggestions for other such TV movies, just you “speak up” and share. I heard about a Arthurian tale from the woman’s point of view (three women, to be exact)… anyone know the title of this one, too? Julianne Margules (sp?) was in it and a Joanna something. I so suck at remembering the names of these things, I just know bits and pieces. I’ll add this one to my list as soon as someone gives me the name
That’s very… interesting. When I checked, nothing came up for me. Spelling was not an issue. I didn’t check the link offered, I did my own search before that and then logged off for the night but I see two copies of “Dwarf” now. Right on, Dopers! Thanks!
Still needing the name of the Arthurian tale told by the three main women in his life. Think people!
