"Red Dwarf" movie rumors

Yes, apparently the green light is on for the long-awaited “Red Dwarf” movie. A director has been signed and it is going to be made by Grant Naylor Productions. Casting is underway, and they hope to get all 4 of the original cast members signed.

I stopped watching the series after Rimmer left, so unless they can lock him in, the movie may not be worth it in my opinion.

“We were 7th Day Adventist Hoppists… our bible apparently had a typo listing the 3 greatest virtues as “Faith, Hop, and Charity… the greatest of these being Hop” so we’d all hop down to the kitchen, hop around the breakfast table, hop off to church and hop all throughout the ceremony…”

Well, you do know that Rimmer was back for Season 8?

Yes, and in this geek’s opinion, Season 8 was an improvement. Not as good as Red Dwarf at it’s best, but getting better.

Season 7 was so awful, I stopped watching after 3 episodes. What they hell did they do to Kochansky(sp)? I loved the actress in the early episodes, but the chick in season 7 was terrible. You couldn’t imagine Lister having any interest in her at all.

Well, if they get some of the good writing and Chris Barrie back, it will be worth it. My favorite episode was “Terrorform”, about the planet that shaped itself according to Rimmer psyche. My second favorite is any episode in seasons 3-6.

Agreed, with the exception of the episode Cassandra, which I thought was Red Dwarf at it’s claustrophobic best – just the boys (and girl) from the Dwarf on their own in a bizarre situation.

I want to lie, shipwrecked and comatose
Drinking fresh mango juice
I can’t remember how
the rest of the theme song goes…
Fun, fun, fun
In the sun, sun, sun…

It’s cold outside, there’s no kind of atmosphere,
I’m all alone, more or less,
Let me fly, far away from here,
Fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun sun…

I want to lie, shipwrecked and comatose,
Sipping fresh mango juice,
Goldfish shoals, nibbling at my toes,
Fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun, sun…
Kochanski was played by CP Grogan in the first few series, but the writers decided that the character she played wasn’t appropriate fo the new direction they wanted to take her. They didn’t want plucky and cute, they wanted annoying and tough. I guess.

Shame. Clare Grogan is a babe.

I’ll be making a cameo, one way or another.

Damn straight. Also had a quirky pop band in Scotland, back in the early 80s, and charted several hits in the UK (“Happy Birthday,” “I Could be Happy,” to name two). Altered Images was the name of the band.

And of course, she was very cute in the charming Bill Forsyth movie “Gregory’s Girl.”

Damn–just changed my sig line a few days ago from “Swirly Thing Alert!

Hmmm, I had thought that I read somewhere that Chris Barrie wasn’t going to do the movie. Must have misinterpreted. Groovy.

Btw, the best episode is actually “White Hole”. In case you were confused.

I would love to see a “Red Dwarf” movie. As far as seeing all of the series, I have only been able to see up to the 3rd or forth series, due to being moved and the local PBS station canceling the showing of the series. Does anyone know about the american version that was made and if a video is avalable of it.

Alibey of Arabia till november

I’ve only seen a few “Red Dwarf” episodes. I did like the one where Rimmer’s incredibly cool, intelligent, successful double from another universe showed up and saved the day.

Smoke me a kipper, but season 8 sucked badly. Seven wasn’t so hot either.

::Ahem:: What’s “Red Dwarf” and where might I find such a program?

“RD” is a British comedy-sci-fi series. Just about the best sci-fi I’ve seen on television. PBS runs it every once in a while.

Briefly, it’s about Dave Lister, the last human alive due to his being in stasis when the mining spaceship he is on has an accident that kills the crew. 3 million years later, the ship’s computer, Holly, lets him out where he is joined by a holograph of his dead bunkmate, Rimmer, and a creature that evolved from Dave’s cat, which was sealed in the hold, pregnant. Later they are joined by Kryten, a service mechanoid. Mostly it is about a bunch of not very bright guys stuck together, traveling through space in search of women. Their adventures frequently parody other sci-fi shows and movies.

There are a number of fan sites, as well as an official site, but I don’t know any of the url’s offhand.

Videos are availble for sale, and you can sometimes find them for rent. Call around to your local video stores.

Some one call?
