Red Dwarf

Red Dwarf #1 and #2 (four discs total) arrived in the mail yesterday.

I watched three episodes last night. I love that show! Unfortunately, I’ve only seen the first two seasons. But at least I have the earlier shows on DVD! Woohoo!

The backwards episode is frigg’n hilarious.

I like the cat.

Yea, I love em. Did yours come with trading cards? Mine did.

CAT: Hey, I want to settle down. And as soon as I find the right small group of girls, the seven or eight women who are right for me, my wandering days are over, buddy.

OMG! I used to watch that show religiously back when I was in high school. It was on PBS at some really incovenient time of night too, IIRC.

A few years ago I met a guy named Mike who looked, dressed, and acted so much like the cat that it was scary! He even had prosthetic fangs. (That’s what happens when you hang out in goth/vampire-wannabe clubs, I guess.) Anyway, he had never even heard of Red Dwarf; he was just like that. But he was a cool guy, if a bit strange.

Oh, well. Enough with the Memory Lane. I’ve got to go order me some DVDs.

You may not be as unfortunate as you think. While I’m a fan of the show, the quality declined markedly in later seasons.

I agree. You have the best years. Not that the later seasons aren’t worth watching.

The 8th series just plain hurts to watch.

Anybody heard the latest on the movie?

I checked about a year ago, but it was still in Developmental Hell.

It was great up to series 5. 6 was a drop in quality, 7 was abysmal and 8 was about as good as 6.

Season six was a drop off? Season six was worthwhile just for Gunmen of the Apocalypse!

If his vision of heaven was a hot dog stand on Fiji I’d say it was probably more than a coincidence.

I watched the rest of the first box last night. The second DVD was “special features”. I can’t see why they needed a second disc for them, as they were not especially numerous. There was the Japanese version of “The End”, some still photos, some music, and not a lot else. So I have two discs with a total of 12 episodes, plus two discs of “extras”.

GMRyujin: Nope. No trading cards.

“Where’s Cat?”

“He’s in the bushes. You know, in the bushes.”

“We’ve got to stop him!”

[Cat emerges from the bushes with an utterly horrified expression.]

I didn’t check to see if that episode is on the discs, but I agree it was pretty funny. The ending was classic! I liked “Better than Life”. It’s one of my favourite episodes. I watched it last night.

Ah, Red Dwarf. I haven’t watched the show for months - not since last year, when some cable channel decided to show one entire series each night for a week, and I was going through a period of insomnia. That was fun.

Was reminded of it recently when a good friend bought four goldfish and named them Kryten, Lister and Rimmer. The fourth one was called Elvis, but explaining why would mean a thread hijack, so I won’t go there.

Incidentally, is the “backwards episode” the one that throws up some Easter eggs when you reverse it?

Yeah. There’s a bit where a bartender goes into a backwards rant and when it’s reversed it come out as roughly “I’m actually ranting at the one sad git in this country that’s bothered to reverse what I’m saying. God, what a pathetic moron!”

I was just introduced to the funnyfunny that is Red Dwarf this past fall (my roommate has a slew of video tapes). Much laughter and joy ensued.

Today’s fish is trout a la creme. Enjoy your meal.

Food escape!

One of the funniest pictures I’ve ever seen

Just scroll down the page to the picture of The Cat. Oh, ye gods! dying

Man I love that show. I think I’m gonna order me some Chicken Vindaloo right now!

I nearly passed out when I noticed that The Cat was in Blade II (along with Luke Goss from BROS for the total 80’s nostalgia trip! Love Red Dwarf.
