Looking for Bourbon Street Song (No, Not That One)

If you’ll kindly endulge my curiosity and assist me with an earworm eviction…I’m looking for a song I heard back in the 90s. I believe it was by a Canadian artist, as I remember seeing him (middle-aged man) perform it on Canada AM or another morning talk show. The lyrics I can remember go something like this:

End of verse:
We’ll get married all in black
And chase the evil spirits back

Chorus:
And I will meet you down on Bourbon Street
(Line I can’t remember)
You know the night is good, the night is sweet
Meet me down on Bourbon Street

I’ve tried googling what I know, but I’m stymied by the sheer volume of other songs about Bourbon Street. This one has a really catchy tune, and I remember it playing non-stop for a few months on the radio before disappearing forevermore. It was definately a pop song, but with a bluesy influence. So please, fellow music fans, will anyone hazard a guess as to the title and/or artist?

One little bump before this sinks into the quagmire of CanCon mediocrity…

I finally found this tune: it’s called Bourbon Street, and it is by a Canadian - a guy named Eddie Schwartz. Here are a few links to it, depending on where you want to try to get it:

dobrophonic, you’re amazing! Thank you so much for finding that! I’m buying it off iTunes right away

Thanks for your post about it here! It convinced me that it was still worth looking for. I was beginning to think I was slightly insane, or that maybe, just maybe the unfortunately-named Mandela Effect was true… but I’m happy to report that it’s not! It’s just that the early to mid-90’s are poorly documented on the internet for some reason - and to be fair, there was a lot of forgettable music that came out at that time. My brother also remembered this song, so I knew it wasn’t just a personal insanity at least, but it was basically impossible to find the song based on the lyrics alone. You provided the key, by mentioning that you thought the singer was a Canadian, which sounded likely to me as well, and I had been leaving that out of my searches (although I had tried to search the Canadian billboard charts, but they really only cover the top 40, and I don’t think this song made it that high despite its brief period of high rotation).

In high school I made a mix tape off the radio that included this song, and I used to listen to it while doing the dishes, which meant I listened to it a lot. I remembered that one of the nearby songs was Bruce Springsteen’s Murder Incorporated, which came out in 1995, so that pretty much narrowed down the year. I ended up googling something like “Canada one hit wonder 1995 Bourbon Street” to finally find it. Upon re-listening to it now, it really holds up, and is an excellent little song - easily as good as most (or all) of Collin James’ tunes I would say - I’m surprised it isn’t more well-known. Well, at least three of us in this vast universe appreciate it!

I’m not sure what’s more incredible, that the question was answered 10 years later, or that the OP is still around to see the answer!

Sometimes I love this place.

I totally agree on all counts. I guess the fact that the OP is still around is slightly more incredible, but somehow that doesn’t seem so strange in a place like this. In fact, answering this thread was the only reason I registered, but I’m a long-time fan of the SD. I’ve been looking for this song for at least 10 years as well, so in a way, it seems appropriate that the original post is that old! Yay for the internet.

I should mention that I checked to see if the OP was still somewhat active before posting my answer, and discovered that their most recent post was just the day before! But I probably would have answered it anyway, just in case someone else out there was also looking for this song, and just as a way of shouting ‘I did it!’ to the universe, like when someone climbs a tall mountain or actually does something significant.

I just sent the link to my brother as well, and he was also very glad to get it, and he remembered that Marc Cohn’s Walking in Memphis was also on the same mix tape, which totally makes sense, as it’s from the same era and hits a similar vibe. So here’s to nostalgia, and the decent music that came out of the nineties!
