I think his last name has six letters and the last are definitely ‘kes’. The first three might be ‘Zab’ ‘Jae’, or something completely different. That’s all the info I have. TIA.
If you are positive about the kes ending I have no help. All I can come up with is Herbert (Herb) Thomas.
What country? What class?
According to the “Fantasy Racing Cheat Sheet” list of all NASCAR drivers that ever made a start from 1949 - Present, the only drivers active in the 60s named “Herb” or “Herbert” were Herbert Scott and Herb Shannon, and the only drivers active in the 60s whose names ended with “-kes” were Ken Spikes and Gene Stokes.
He was a stunt car driver in a movie, and I left the name of the movie at home. I’ll respond with that when I get a chance. It was a movie about stock car racing, and at the end there was a list of the drivers who actually did the driving. I know that most of the drivers were actual racers, but there could have been some that were not racers, but generic stunt car drivers. The only ones I remember off hand were the Marlin brothers, Coo Coo and Jack, who were definitely racers. There was one name I couldn’t make out because of the background (and my crappy old tube TV). I’m certain that the first name was Herbert and the last name ended in ‘kes,’ whoever he was.
(And if you’re wondering why I’m trying to find this–I’m and IMDB nerd, and sometimes we can be pretty OCD completists where credits are concerned.)

I’m guessing the movie is “Track of Thunder,” based on the time period and the fact Coo Coo Marlin has a credit in it, but I can’t seem to find anything more about it, or even a version of it I can watch on the internet to fast forward to the credits.
^^Probably.
I’m not sure how much it will help, but here are the most common U.S. surnames of six letters ending in -kes, based on data from the 2010 census, in order starting with the most common:

And the most common of five or seven letters, again in order:

All data from “file B” that can be downloaded from Frequently Occurring Surnames from the 2010 Census
Well. . . Interestly there was a Robert Frakes, who was involved in racing during that time frame. Coulda been a credits error. I’ll remember to get a screen cap next time it’s on. Thanks.
What year is your tv from? Cathode ray tube or many tubes like we used to take to the drugstore to test and replace.
Are you sure you don’t live in a different dimension?
^^Ha! ‘Tube’ as in CRT. I think its manufacture date is 1998 or so.
[And I did confirm that the movie was indeed ‘Track of Thunder.’]
