Hello, I’ve got an earworm and I’m trying to excise it but my Google/Youtube skills are failing me. I’m trying to find a comedy stand-up routine in which the comedian sang a song based on the line, “I don’t care!” He’d intersperse his remarks about how lousy his life was with the words “I don’t care”, until the end or the act when it became a full-blown song: “I don’t care, I don’t care (he does not care!)” and so on. This cheerful ditty is stuck in my head and I’d like to pass it on to a friend… and thus spread the earworm
Here’s the other details I can remember: The comedian was male, and didn’t sound particularly old or young. I remember recording this act off the radio back in the late 80s or early 90s, on a Just For Laughs comedy show. (I’ve long since lost the tape, unfortunately.) That means the artist was probably Canadian, or at least played in Montreal. Thanks in advance for any help!
(Waiting for someone to post, “I don’t care” in 3…2…1…)
Yeah, I remember that. I saw a Kevin Meaney special in which he sang the song, and went out into the audience, out the door of the club, out on the street, and onto a bus, trying to get people to sing along. He found a teenage girl, and tried to get her to sing “I don’t care, I don’t care,” but the girl instead sang the chorus of “Doin’ Da Butt,” a popular song at the time. (“Da Butt” was a dance. IIRC the song appeared in the movie “School Daze”)
I have been signing that song at appropriate moments (usually under my breath) for over 20 years now, ever since I saw Meaney’s late-'80’s appearance on HBO’s One Night Stand.
